These days the catwalks of Milan will be empty. Models will be ‘crossing their legs’ for three hours from 4 to 7 this afternoon in protest against the lack of regulations in the fashion world that allow anyone to assume the job of an agent, and for a law for the registration of agencies. Models from agencies adhering to ASSEM, the association uniting nine of the most important modelling agencies, will take part in the strike. The trouble is due to ‘unfair’ competition from foreign agencies, which can open and close branches in Italy with a few months, and invoice, for example, in Luxembourg, but also and especially due to the difficulty of working in a completely deregulated field of work. Complaints are that the absence of regulations, and therefore of ‘permits’, is making visa processes of models from the East take much longer than they should be and also make it necessary to check and see whether the model will be falling into the clutches of agencies that have nothing to do with the fashion industry. To talk about this, agents and models have set a date today at 5pm at the Palazzo delle Stelline for an open debate on the sector’s problems in Italy and especially in Milan, fashion capital, which manages 85 percent of business related to fashion shows with its 15 agencies. The meeting will be about foreign competition working without the need of a licence and the necessity of a agency registration to protect models, as well as agencies, and to assure profits for both parties. Just to give an idea of the situation, of the 500 to 20,000 euros paid to top models for a fashion show, the agency takes 20 percent.

Do you want to be on the popular UPN show “America’s Next Top Model?” If you were expecting to attend an advertised casting call this weekend in Overland Park, don’t bother because it’s a fake, KMBC’s Kris Ketz reported Tuesday. The Health and Fitness Expo is being held at the Overland Park International Trade Center this weekend. A commercial for the expo mentions a casting call for “Top Model.” The reality show, one of the most popular on the UPN network, has a group of young women fighting their way to become a top model. The problem is that KCWE, UPN’s affiliate in Kansas City, knows nothing about the casting call, and neither does UPN.
The network and KCWE have sponsored open casting calls for “Top Model” before — one was held in February in Kansas City, Kan. Ketz reported that a San Francisco talent agent is apparently behind the fake casting call, and the agent asked Overland Park Talent Agent Mark Anthony Jones to help set the event up. Jones said he was planning to send clients to this weekend’s event, until the trade center received a call from UPN’s attorneys Tuesday. “Very disappointing, because we assumed it was legitimate and apparently it’s not,” Jones said. “Feel duped?” Ketz asked. “Absolutely, just like everybody,” Jones said. The commercial also mentions a casting call for the MTV show “Next,” but Ketz reported that there is no mention of the event on MTV’s Web site. KMBC’s calls to the event’s Ohio promoter and to the San Francisco talent agent have not been returned. KCWE is a sister station of KMBC.

She left fans reeling with her drug shame and once again,
Kate Moss proved she has not lost her ability to shock - by kissing another woman.
Retail tycoon Philip Green paid ?60,000 for a kiss from Kate at a charity auction - but the supermodel embraced Hugh Grant’s girlfriend Jemima Khan instead. Stunned guests at the fashionable club Annabel’s in Mayfair watched the supermodel sweep Miss Khan’s hair away from her face as she leaned in to kiss her on the lips. It is unknown why Mr Green, who made the winning bid at the charity auction, declined the kiss at the last minute. It is believed he offered the kiss to the person he outbid, Hugh Grant’s girlfriend Jemima Khan, because he was there with his wife, Tina. However, rather than a quick peck on the lips, the two women enjoyed a passionate embrace, to the surprise of fellow guests.
One told London’s Evening Standard: “We thought it was going to be a kiss on the cheek. It lasted just over 60 seconds. A few people were shocked but everyone was laughing after.”
The auction and dinner was in aid of the Hoping Foundation for Palestinian refugee children. A game of golf with Hugh Grant, with Khan as caddy, went for ?12,000. Other lots included a cricket lesson from Imran Khan, tea with the Archbishop of Canterbury and a children’s bedtime story read by Narnia actress Tilda Swinton.
In all, the auction raised more than ?200,000. Guests at the event, hosted by fashion designer Bella Freud, included Jade Jagger, Sadie Frost and Jerry Hall.

Tatyana Simanava was released from a New York City hospital yesterday after being treated for multiple injuries following a fall from a moving bus.
The Belarus-born beauty was en route to a modelling appointment last week (

After tumbling onto the highway, Simanava suffered bruising to her right arm and jaw and was treated at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Speaking to the New York Daily News after the accident, she fumed, “I am not angry, but I would like that there are some changes made, that nothing like this can happen again.
“I am sure that the exit doors have to be locked and they have to be marked.
There were no signs.
“I asked where the bathroom was and I was told it’s down the stairs, there’s a door.
“I opened the first door I saw, and I don’t remember anything after that. My friends told me the bus driver saw me fall. “Everybody said it is lucky that I am alive.”

Swedish fashion model Marzena Kamizela spent the weekend in jail in Canada over an air rage incident that saw her being wrestled to the floor of a British Airways flight by the Manchester City and former England footballer Danny Mills. Marzena, who has appeared on the covers of Cosmopolitan and Men’s Health, joined the ranks of air-raging celebrities like Liam Gallagher and Courtney Love when she started to jump on her seat, shout, swear and wave around a wine bottle.
The 32-year-old model pushed away a flight attendant - biting one of them, according to a witness account - and threw away a sternly worded note from the pilot on her Friday flight from London to New York.
“We were astounded by the way the woman was behaving,” said Mills, 28, who was sitting a few rows behind her. “We had to help hold her down so that the crew could apprehend her and tie her to her seat.”
She was restrained using handcuffs, and the aircraft made an emergency landing at the Happy Valley airbase in Goose Bay, Canada, where she was handed over to the police. The flight arrived with a three-hour delay in New York.
After spending the weekend in jail, Kamizela admitted assaulting three members of cabin crew and endangering the flight, when she appeared at a Goose Bay court yesterday.
Judge William English sentenced her to one year’s probation, fined her CN$10,000 and ordered her to pay a further CN$18,490 as compensation to British Airways. The judge said that she would have to remain in Labrador until the money for the fine had been transferred. Kamizela, whose photo credits include advertising campaigns for Martini, pleaded guilty “to get this thing behind me” but said that the flight attendants had over-reacted. In the past, celebrities have usually been let off gently after behaving badly in the air. Courtney Love, the singer was merely told off in London after taking off her underwear and noisily celebrating with musicians in a trans-Atlantic flight.
There have been signs however that airlines and courts are tightening up. Diana Ross was arrested and held for five hours after allegedly being abusive to a Heathrow security officer - she was released with a caution.
The gangsta rapper Snoop Dogg spent a night in a cell recently after an alcohol-fuelled incident in Heathrow’s VIP lounge before take off. He was also officially cautioned and was banned from British Airways flights. A few years ago police would not even have been called in for his offence - allegedly swearing at airport staff.
After an incident of air rage - apparently over a scone - on a flight to Australia, the Oasis singer Liam Gallagher was banned for life from Cathay Pacific airlines.
The Danish model May Andersen slapped a flight attendant on a trip from Amsterdam to Miami and, on landing, was refused entry to the United States, which is perhaps the toughest sentence of all for an international model.
The tolerance of air-borne misbehaviour was based partly on the fact that first class passengers are offered large quantities of alcoholic drinks as part of the on-board service and in pre-take off VIP areas.
At a cruising altitude of 30,000ft alcohol has a more potent on the metabolism than at ground level, and becoming dehydrated can also cause irritability, stress and fatigue. Since many air-rage incidents seem to be prompted by alcohol, airlines contribute to the problem. The no smoking ban also increases irritability among smoking passengers. But more and more high-profile passengers seem to be crossing the boundary between drunken antics and outright violence that directly threatens the aircrew and frightens other passengers. Air-rage incidents in the past have included the case of a man defaecating on the food trolley in the First Class section of a flight to Bangkok, and a Japanese passenger who walked down the isle urinating on the seats. Many alleged air-ragers claim later to have had a complete memory lapse. Peter Buck, a guitarist with the group REM, claimed to have suffered a blackout after drinking alcohol and taking a sleeping pill on a long haul flight.
He said at his trial that he had no recall of overturning the food trolley, and was cleared by a UK jury of charges of drunken behaviour.

Former Juventus of Turin defender Nicola Caricola - who is married to South African fashion model
Tanya Fourie - has been charged by Italian police with supplying cocaine to former team-mate Gianluca Vialli.
This follows a mushrooming investigation of former Juve players’ alleged links to drugs trafficking. The probe had led to the arrest of former Italy international Michele Padovano, police sources said on Sunday. Caricola, a friend of Padovano, 39, who played in the Juve defence line in the early 1990s, apparently settled into family life in Genoa with Fourie.
Carabinieri paramilitary police force investigators have been quoted by the press as saying Caricola in 2004 twice supplied Vialli with cocaine for personal use.
Caricola has been charged with trafficking cocaine, although it is unclear whether he is to be indicted as the amounts involved were apparently limited.
Padovano, however, was sacked from his job as general director of the fourth-division club Alexandria. He is accused of having lent nearly €100 000 to the alleged gang leader, Luca Mosole, 39. Italian media described the investigation of the three well-known former Juventus aces as a “black day for Juventus”. The Carabinieri came across the names of the trio as part of a probe into a vast network smuggling hashish into Italy from Morocco through Spain. Investigators emphasised that there was no immediate suggestion that Caricola was involved in the international drug smuggling gang. Caricola made no immediate comment, but Vialli, in London for the launch of his book The Italian Job, denied involvement in the smuggling ring. Thirty-three people have been arrested on charges of being members of the crime gang. Thirty-eight more people charged remain at large. Carabinieri seized €14-million worth of hashish.

Brazilian beauty
Gisele Bundchen was looking especially heavenly when she donned a pair of self-designed wings to help launch a new fragrance in New York this week. The Latin bombshell’s fellow catwalk queens
Karolina Kurkova and
Adriana Lima also alighted on Herald Square on Wednesday, where the scent Dream Angels Heavenly was being presented in the Victoria Secret flagship store.
And although the lingerie label was aiming solely to promote its perfume, Gisele’s feathered handiwork garnered the most attention. “I designed these little blue wings because I love the ocean and I wanted to look like a little fairy,” revealed the 25-year-old. “They’re going to be auctioned later and the money is going to charity.”
The 5ft 11in stunner, who split up with long-time beau Leonardo DiCaprio late last year, also had some words of advice for any potential suitors. The best way to make a lasting impression, she said, is to choose a good cologne. “A smell is very memorable,” she explained. “You remember a person that always wears a fragrance, even though you don’t know about them anymore. I knew a guy many years ago, and I haven’t seen him in ten years, but I was walking in the street the other day and I didn’t see him, but I smelled the smell.”
