Maybe it was just bad lighting.Or maybe Calgarian Dawn Buggins really didn’t have what it takes to be Canada’s Next Top Model. Either way, the 22-year-old bartender was booted off the modelling competition last night by judge and host Tricia Helfer, herself an Alberta-born supermodel. Helfer and the other judges said in previous interviews they thought Buggins was a “sweet, gorgeous girl,” but they were worried she didn’t have the cut-throat mentality it takes to make it big on the catwalk.
Last night, after a photo shoot where Buggins admitted she felt uncomfortable in front of the cameras, the judges discussed her chances. Judge Jeanne Beker, host of Fashion Television, asked Buggins how she felt in front of the camera and Buggins replied she was nervous, but said, “I’m getting better.” But in the world of high heels and high fashion, that’s not enough, and Buggins was sent packing. Literally. As she packed her bags, Buggins admitted she knew her ousting was coming. “I had a gut feeling all day,” she said. “It’s a blow to the ego. But I’m glad I did it. No regrets.” Last week, Canada’s Next Top Model judges sent home Sylvie Majcher, a 23-year-old Sherwood Park student. There are no other Albertan competitors on the reality-TV show, which airs Wednesdays on Citytv at 8 p.m.

Controversial supermodel Naomi Campbell has revealed that she will not be supporting her native England to win the World Cup. According to ananova.com, Campbell says she will back Brazil instead, saying she spends a lot of time visiting Rio.
She said: “I want Brazil to win the World Cup. I love the country and everything about it. They are one of the best teams in the world.”
But she added: “If Brazil get knocked out I’ll be supporting England.”

Model Nicole Friello had emergency surgery after suffering a cancer scare while working abroad. The former Miss Scotland finalist thought she was going to die after she collapsed in agony while on a photoshoot in Rome.
Nicole, 21, was taken to hospital, where a tumour the size of a tangerine and 4ft of intestine were removed during an eight-hour operation. A friend said: “The operation she had in Italy was a big one and Nicole is still in a bad way. “She was so ill she is lucky to be alive.” Surgeons at Rome’s San Camillo hospital worked fast because they were afraid she might die if the tumour burst. Her boyfriend, former Celtic star Didier Agathe, has been on the phone daily from his family home on the French island of Reunion, where he has been in a charity football match. Her friend added: “Didier has been a great support but inside he must be frantic. He has been praying for Nicole along with the rest of her family and friends.”
The tumour was confirmed as benign and Nicole flew to Scotland in a wheelchair five days after surgery. But her recovery suffered a setback when she was diagnosed with pneumonia and suffered a flare-up of the digestive tract condition Crohn’s Disease, which she has had for many years.
She was being treated at St John’s hospital in her home town of Livingston, West Lothian, yesterday.

Kate Moss‘ new boyfriend TV star Russell Brand has confessed he was so addicted to sex he paid prostitutes to satisfy his needs. The presenter admits he put himself at “considerable risk” at the height of his addiction. He said: “I’ve got myself in dangerous scenarios to impress and seduce women in brothels in Istanbul, lap-dancing clubs in Athens, bordellos in Havana and discos in Basildon.”
Brand, 30, who describes his behaviour as “compulsive and dangerous”, discovered his sex addiction while he was in rehab to beat addictions to alcohol and heroin. The shocking news about Russell’s sordid past has reportedly worried supermodel Kate, who has just come out of a turbulent relationship with drug addict Pete Doherty.
Rumours also suggest that the sex-mad funnyman is already looking for his next notch on the bedpost despite being spotted coming out of Kate’s London home twice last week. He reportedly confessed to a reporter he was trying to bed: “Forget Kate, she’s irrelevant. I prefer women with a bit of meat on them anyway.” Russell’s previous conquests include ‘Big Brother’ contestants Kate Lawler, Makosi Musambasi and Becki Seddiki.
