SUPERMODEL Elle Macpherson brought a touch of glamour to the Yorkshire International Business Convention where surprise guests also included the mother of murdered Victoria Climbie.
Former Australian prime minister John Howard was another speaker, telling the convention that Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe might have stepped down years earlier if more pressure had been put on him.
The 1,300 delegates at the Harrogate event also enjoyed speeches by ex-world champion boxer George Foreman and satirist Rory Bremner.
Earlier Bertha Climbie, mother of eight-year-old Victoria, who was tortured to death by her great aunt and her boyfriend, made an unexpected appearance.
Mrs Climbie thanked everyone who gave money to help fund the building of a school in memory of Victoria in her home town of Abobo in the Ivory Coast. The trust set up in Victoria’s name was the convention’s nominated charity for the second year running.
Mrs Climbie said: “I am here to express my gratitude for your invaluable support.”
Ms MacPherson, whose Intimates range is the biggest-selling brand of designer lingerie in the UK, described how she had cut her modelling commitments to spend more time on her business empire.
The 44-year-old added: “My knickers have literally changed my life. They have taken me to my chosen career not once but twice – first as a model with an instantly recognisable image and then as creative director of an underwear business.”
Keynote speaker Mr Howard told the convention the crisis in Zimbabwe had arisen because of “a failure of leadership in states of southern Africa”.

Seems that model du jour Agyness Deyn now has another advertising campaign under her belt as the face of Jean Paul Gaultier’s new fragrance Ma Dame. Agyness was in Paris this week to celebrate with BFF Henry Holland, DJ’s ODO 7, Miss Kitten and The Missshapes.
Gaultier described how he imagined Ma Dame and it fits Agyness pretty well. He described his ultimate Ma Dame woman as cheeky, distinctive and a girl who breaks all the rules!
Francis Kurkdjian, the perfumier who helped create the scent told Elle, “There is a great deal of strength and a great deal of softness in the fragrance. The same could be said of girls today.”
The perfume launches exclusively on the 17th August at Harrods but will be available nationwide from 1st September.

DOES Jennifer Hawkins have a new gig? Whispers in the television world have the Myer glamour girl as host of Channel 7’s new Make Me A Supermodel.
That’s despite previous rumours that Erika Heynatz, the former host of the cable hit Australia’s Next Top Model, had the job.
Hawkins is already signed to Seven as a reporter on travel show The Great Outdoors and re-signed with the network for another 12 months in September last year.
Manager Sean Anderson confirmed Hawkins’ name had been linked to the show, but said negotiations were in the initial stages.
“We’re meeting with Seven next week,” he said.
Make Me A Supermodel would be a good fit for the blonde bombshell given her own meteoric rise to fame.
Based on the Brit show hosted by Kiwi supermodel Rachel Hunter, it will feature guys and girls battling it out for a shot at becoming an overnight success in the modelling world and a contract with Chadwick Models and IMG.
Winning the Miss Universe crown in 2004 was Hawkins’ big break, taking her from a Newcastle cheerleader to a household name with lucrative contracts with Channel 7, Myer, Lovable and Covergirl.
She’s also had acting lessons, but turned down a role in the Pink Panther movie sequel last year because of a conflict in scheduling.

Recently, Giselle Bundchen just said that she will never consider having plastic surgery. But Make Me Heal has known for years that the highest paid supermodel in the world has had a breast augmentation to boost her chest and career.
Known mostly recently for her work as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, 27-year old Giselle recently said that she would never have plastic surgery because her mom is living proof of aging gracefully and naturally.
“No way (will I have surgery). Actually, I asked my mother the very same question and she said, ‘It’s taken me 58 years for me to look like this. You think I’m going to ruin it now?’ She (Giselle’s mom) looks great, so I hope I will look the same.”
Giselle Bundchen’s dismissal of plastic surgery is outright hypocrisy (or amnesia if she is not lying) in light of the fact that she is already the proud owner of breast implants, along with her fellow Victoria’s Secret Angels Heidi Klum and Selita Ebanks. 
Giselle has certainly gotten breast implants to help fill out the bikini tops and bras she commonly models on the runway and in magazines. Before and after photos show that Giselle has gone from a small B cup to a full C cup breast size, and the result is excellent.
There are also rumors that Giselle Bundchen got a nose job in her past to help her get the cute button nose that is on the cover of magazines all over the world. This rhinoplasty rumor cannot be confirmed at press time.
Giselle would have been better off saying that she doesn’t plan to have any further plastic surgery beyond what she’s done already. Also, making such bold statements when you’re at the zenith of your youth can come back to bite you later when the aging process sets in and you change your mind about plastic surgery. We’ve seen time and again celebrities who were staunchly against plastic surgery in their youth quietly enter through the backdoor of plastic surgeons’ offices.
The only interesting bit of information from Giselle’s false testimony is about her mother. If Giselle’s mom looks that fantastic at 58, Make Me Heal wonders if the Bunchen Mommy has also quietly gone under the knife and if plastic surgery is the Bundchen family secret that fuels the great genes in the family.

Keep your eyes peeled on the streets for Kate Moss. Yes, she’s here, in New York, right now. Kind of gives you that tingling feeling, doesn’t it? She could be walking outside your office building right now. She could even be doing a photo shoot leaning against your very door.
So far she’s been spotted talking to Robert Duffy near the Marc Jacobs store on Mercer Street. Naturally, rumors have begun swirling about her doing a campaign for Marc or Louis Vuitton, and we don’t mind stirring that pot a little bit. What else could they be talking about?
She was also seen in leaving a building with a face full of makeup. Now our Kate doesn’t normally do her day-to-day walking around all done up like that. So it must be a photo shoot! And as Fashionologie speculated a couple of weeks ago, she may be on the cover of Vogue’s August issue (Kate was spotted weeks ago on a photo shoot with Grace Coddington in London and seen on another occasion with Vogue writer Plum Sykes).
