Discovered in Primark, the London teenager Vogue predicts will be world’s next supermodel

jourdan dunn
A London teenager has been named one of the world’s most promising young models by Vogue.
Jourdan Dunn - who was discovered shopping in a West London Primark and has since become Prada’s first black catwalk model since Naomi Campbell a decade ago - is one of only two British girls tipped for global modeling success by the magazine.
The 19-year-old was approached by a fashion scout for Storm - the agency responsible for the careers of Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer and Sophie Dahl - two years ago.

Since then she has modelled on catwalks in London, Paris and New York, fronted campaigns for brands including Benetton and Gap, and spoken out in the Evening Standard about racism in the fashion industry.
Today Jourdan, who lives with her mother Dee and two younger brothers in Greenford, said she was elated by the honour. “This is such a big compliment from British Vogue and I am so flattered,” she said.
Jourdan, who is 5ft 11in with vital statistics of 32-23-35, said a lot more could be done to make her industry more diverse. “I go to castings and see several black and Asian girls, then I get to the show and there’s just me and maybe one other coloured face.”
Sarah Doukas, managing director of Storm, described Jourdan as a ” trailblazer”, adding: “I have felt that our industry has badly needed an interesting and new model star. In my opinion Jourdan Dunn is the girl … Like all the great models before her, she is exciting and original.”
Vogue’s fashion booking editor Sophie Baudrand said 10 girls were picked from thousands worldwide. She added: “Jourdan is one of those really cool London girls that come along once in a while.” The other tipped Briton is Eden Clark, 17.

La Moss smoulders in new Parisian photo shoot

kate moss
Kate Moss proved she still has a certain je ne sais quoi in a new photo shoot set in Paris.
The 34-year-old teams up with emerging French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who is ten years her junior, in the latest campaign for luxury label Longchamp.
The supermodel was named the face of the brand in 2005, just months her front page drug scandal threatened to ruin her career.

Meanwhile, Kate’s former boyfriend Pete Doherty is reportedly planning to reveal intimate details about their tumultuous relationship in a new autobiography.
The Babyshambles singer is said to be teaming up his friend and writer Sean Boru to write the ‘intensely personal biography’ which will focus on his ill-fated romance.
Boru was quoted in the Daily Star as saying: ‘The whole premise of the book is Pete talking about Kate Moss and the sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle they shared.
‘I wrote to Pete when he was in jail about my experiences when I was a drug addict and we built a relationship.
‘He knows I understand where he is coming from and this is the first book that properly details his private life with Moss - which is what everyone wants to read about.’

So in love: Agyness Deyn can’t keep her hands off her new rocker man

agyness deyn
Model du jour Agyness Deyn ordered up kisses and hugs during a romantic lunch with her rocker boyfriend Albert Hammond Jr. in New York yesterday.
The 25-year-old and the Strokes guitarist could barely keep their hands off each other as they sat outside The Bowery Hotel’s Gemma restaurant.
They then took their romance on the road, cycling around the city together as their date rolled on.
The couple went public with their relationship at the Songwriter Hall Of Fame Awards in New York last month.
It came just weeks after Agyness split from The Paddingtons rocker Josh Hubbard, whom she had dated for four years together.
Hammond Jr. is no stranger to model beauties - he has previously been romantically linked to Danish supermodel May Andersen.

The couple flew to into London to attend Sir Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball last week, where they again turned heads with a very public display of affection.
An onlooker among the A-list crowd said: ‘She and Albert were pawing at each other over dinner like a couple of loved-up teens. While everyone was demurely tucking into their sea bass, Agy was tucking into Albert.’
As well as finding a new boyfriend in record time, Agyness has recently turned her attentions to the world of music.
The 25-year-old has collaborated on a music project with friends the Five O’Clock Heroes and has performed a number of gigs of late including an appearance on the Sunday Night Project for Channel Four.

Model, 13, signs US contract

maddison gabrielIT’S been nine months since the global media pounced on the controversial decision to name 12-year-old model Maddison Gabriel as the ‘face’ of Gold Coast Fashion Week.
Now just three months from turning 14, Maddison is taking on the world.
The freckle-faced teen has just been signed with Elite in New York, one of the world’s leading modelling agencies, and will go to the US at Christmas.
She is in Paris on a family holiday and taking the chance to meet agents reportedly interested in representing her once she turns 16.
Earlier this year, Maddison joined the books of Tamblyn Models in Brisbane which is now her ‘mother’ agency, and has also set her up with Sydney’s highly respected Chadwick’s.
Tamblyn spokeswoman Sallie Tamblyn said Maddison had enormous moneymaking potential overseas, and the agency was helping with her career development.
Ms Tamblyn said a Cairns model barely 16 years old had just returned from a month in New York and had earned close to $US20,000.
Speaking from Paris yesterday, Maddison told The Bulletin she was ‘really excited’ about plans to travel to the US in her end-of-year school holidays and begin working in the industry.
“I can’t wait to see what will happen while I am there.”
It’s a far cry from the teen hiding away in her home from national and international media when the debate was raging over her Gold Coast Fashion Week involvement last year.
Everyone from then prime minister John Howard to US talk show hosts made comment on the issue of young teenagers entering the modelling industry, with Maddison and her mother Michelle caught in the middle.
* Demelza Reveley, 16, last night won the final of TV’s Australia’s Next Top Model during the live show from Sydney’s Luna Park, beating 21-year-old Sydney student Alexandra Girdwood.
Despite being one of the most controversial figures on the show as the head of a group of bullies, the Australian public voted her the clear winner.
Before the announcement, Mr Reveley apologised for her onscreen behaviour.
