A NEW chapter has begun in the department store supermodel wars – if these sexy shots of Miranda Kerr are anything to go by.
The Sunday Herald Sun has been given an exlusive first look at Kerr’s debut shoot – in Rio de Janeiro – as the new face of David Jones.
Not to be outdone, Myer glamour girl Jennifer Hawkins has stepped out in a sizzling Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking tuxedo as part of an exhibition in the Myer windows. It will feature haute couture associated with best-selling perfumes such as Chanel and Dior.
But Kerr, who is dating Hollywood heart-throb Orlando Bloom, will garner much of the attention as the major retailers reveal their latest season collections in the next few weeks.
Always shot in sumptuous surrounds, the location and theme of the annual David Jones collections catalogue are a well-kept secret until released.
“I’d never been to Rio before so it was exciting,” Kerr says. “The Brazilians have a really great attitude to life. David Jones chose the perfect destination.”
Kerr, who is living in New York, has heard about the fashion battle between the retail giants, but she isn’t buying into the debate about the success of the campaigns.
“I guess it is what it is – I’m doing my job and she’s doing her job,” Kerr says.

ONE of Hollywood’s hottest couples, Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom (Kerrbloom) is set to reignite Sydney next month when she flies in to make her debut appearance on the David Jones runway.
The sizzling show, Summer In The City, with a campaign shot in the steamy beaches of Rio de Janeiro, is sure to be the sexiest that the store has ever staged. And not only because Kerr’s lover will be seated front and centre.
“We’re looking at our schedules at present to see whether we can work it,” she said, speaking exclusively to Hush from their home in New York.
It’s obvious that the former Gunnedah gymnast is in lurve but, as for news of an engagement, she insists that she is just “taking it one day at a time”.
The major challenge for the couple is finding the time to be together. A recent romantic getaway in Spain was upstaged when the paparazzi stole intimate shots of the semi-naked couple frolicking together in the sun.
“We chose a boutique hotel there with just 100 rooms to keep ourselves away from those camera lenses,” Kerr insisted. “But they found us anyway. It was such an invasion of our privacy.”
Bloom was, unfortunately, not able to accompany Kerr to Rio where the David Jones campaign was shot at several locations including Ipanema Beach, Copacabana Beach and Sugar Loaf Bay.
“It was just as well that he wasn’t there because I had to work so hard,” she said.
“There were 30 swimsuits, 250 pieces of clothing and 20 pairs of sunglasses to shoot. But it was certainly a lot of fun, as well.”
Meanwhile, the supermodel has been busily penning Treasure Yourself – her self-help tome for young women encouraging them to look after themselves especially when it comes to nutrition. =
She wants to promote the idea that you don’t have to be a size zero to be beautiful.
Despite the fact that she is so much in demand as a Victoria’s Secret model, Kerr is relishing the idea of doing her first show on August 5, as David Jones Fashion Ambassador.
“I think it is really exciting and I am thrilled to be part of such a wonderful show,” she said.
“I always love coming home to Australia.”

English model Kate Moss had a series of rows with her beau Jamie Hince over his band mate Alison Mosshart, costing them their relationship, it has emerged.
Moss jealousy of Hince spending too much time with his band mate Mosshart and his excluding her from his rock life, has been cited as the cause for the fights.
Its the other Moss, shes got your heart, News of the World quoted a source, as saying.
Moss further accused Hince of getting too close to Alison after he came back to her house at 3am one night, and also complained that Mosshart has copied her skinny jeans style and always wants to hang out with Jamie socially.
Kate was upset with Jamie because he often doesnt pick up his phone when hes with her, another source said.
Kate shouted at him that he likes Alisons vibe, is always laughing with her, and has a closeness with her that they dont have.
Shes jealous of that and is also envious that Alison is a real rock chick, whereas Kate feels she is just pretending to be one, the source added.
It seems that the two will be going their separate ways after Moss went off for a holiday to Marbella alone this week, and Hince was spotted leaving Kates house with a suitcase.

With a small spade in her hand, British supermodel Naomi Campbell showed off her horticultural skills as she helped to get a new green initiative underway in Nigeria this week.
Teaming up with British designer Oswald Boateng, Naomi planted a tree in the African republic’s capital city of Abuja. The scheme aims to plant a tree for each child born in the area to help turn the city “green” and combat climate change.
“I am very, very happy to be in Nigeria,” she said. “Africa is a very rich country … we should show the world Africa is rising in a positive way.”
And the 38-year-old beauty revealed this was not the first time she has got her hands dirty in the garden. Speaking of her adoptive father-figure, Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, she said: “My dad has a place in Jamaica called Golden Eye and we have had trees from many people, including River Phoenix, Kate Moss and Bono.”
The London-born beauty was not the only famous face who arrived in the region to help promote the good cause. Performing at the THISDAY Music and Fashion festival, which promotes the best of Africa, were stars including Jay-Z, Usher and songstress Rihanna.
