The 20-year-old, who starts Cambridge University next month to read history, poses for a shoot inspired by French musician Serge Gainsbourg’s Melody Nelson album.
It shows the Marks and Spencer model holding a teddy bear, wearing nothing but a pair of white socks on the cover, with a further 14 pages of pictures inside.
French Playboy’s fashion director Alex Aikiu told the Daily Mail the model did not ask for a large fee for the shoot.
He said: “It’s all about being sweet and innocent.
“We just paid her the editorial fee any magazine would. Lily said yes right away.”
When speaking of Cole’s interview, Mr Aikiu added: “It’s very intimate, very psychological. For us, Playboy isn’t Pamela Anderson. It doesn’t matter how big your boobs are – it’s about what’s inside the woman.”
Cole recently admitted she cannot wait to start university.
She said: “I’ll still do bits of modelling alongside my degree. We have long holidays, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to work then.
“But modelling can get a little lonely sometimes, especially when you are travelling on your own. That’s what I’m looking forward to about going to university to meet lots of new people.”
Gainsbourg is probably best remembered for his worldwide hit “Je t’aime… moi non plus”, a duet with his lover Jane Birkin.

Naomi Campbell has hinted at a more permanent move to Brazil after exclusively revealing she’s about to kick off her first fashion range in the South American country.
And in a remarkable turnaround, the fearsome clotheshorse appears to be inspired by the designing efforts of one-time bitch-fighting rival, Victoria Beckham, heaping praise on Posh’s collection.
The model-turned charity pioneer told Metro that her focus will be on beach wear and bikinis: ‘I’ve started my own fashion range in Brazil.
‘It’s bathing suits and apparel, so it’s not really like fashion or Dolce Gabbana. It’s more like easy [wear].’
She spoke of her business plans as she ‘frantically’ prepared for her catwalk fundraiser to help the Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown’s White Ribbon Alliance Charity.
Campbell says her fashion inspiration comes from London, explaining: ‘I think the clothes that we see here and the creativeness we see here has been amazing. As a country we have put out amazing designers like McQueen, Galliano, Jasper Conran.’
Buoyed by Beckham’s designing efforts, she was surprisingly complimentary about a fellow madam she once feuded with publicly.
‘I saw her whole line of dresses and they are absolutely beautiful. Simple. Sexy. Very elegant. Really nice.’
‘I wear her clothes. I wear the jeans that she made for me. They are called the Naomi Campbell model.’
‘I think we have them in the show tomorrow. Victoria’s been very supportive and given a great, great auction off prize which I think is going to go really well tomorrow.’
‘She’s given so much. I am really grateful to her. She is a good friend and I really respect her.’
A fashion company in Brazil would tie-in nicely with rumours Campbell is about to shack up permanently with billionaire lover Vladislav Doronin in South America.
The supermodel, who is currently serving soup in London as part of her community service punishment for throwing a hissy fit on a British Airways flight, remains coy about their plans.
‘I live day by day god willing and I try to endure each day as best as I can. That’s how I live.’
On her latest attempt to help the world and turn around an obnoxious image, she said: ‘People who know me know that I am a generous person and a loyal person. I help the causes and the people that I want to help. I don’t do it for public adulation and I never will. It’s not something that I really talk about.’

Kate Moss has revealed that daughter Lila is such a fan of the smell of petrol that she is considering using it for her next perfume.
The 34-year-old supermodel told Company magazine about the five-year-old’s strange scent passion. She said: “Worryingly, my daughter Lila, loves the smell of gasoline. She always says, ‘Mummy keep the door open,’ when I’m putting petrol in the car.”
The model, who had Lila with former squeeze Jefferson Hack, said she also loved the smell when she was a child.
She said: “I remember loving that smell when I was young, too. I’ve heard it’s one of the most preferred scents in the world – maybe that’s something to study for my next fragrance.”

Poor Kate Moss, she’s had a string of bad luck lately, and this week was no exception. A group of thieves broke into Moss’ Range Rover right outside her North London mansion.
The good news is the car was empty and all they got away with was about $20 in cash and a box of chocolates.
A close friend tells the Mirror: “Kate was absolutely distraught when she saw broken glass on the driveway and realized that her car had been broken into.
“She wasn’t sure what she’d left on the backseat and initially feared they’d got away with a ?200k diamond solitaire ring. Then she had a closer look and was thrilled to find just how little was missing.”
Why anyone in their right mind would leave a ?200k diamond ring in their car is beyond us, but luckily the thieves basically walked off empty handed.
