Supermodel teens must explain TV tryst

kassandra zandtMAKE Me A Supermodel teenagers Kassandra Zandt and Luke Quill got much more than just their 15 minutes of fame from the television competition.
They ended up hooking up in the house despite them both having relationships at home.
Kassy, 18, from Cairns was voted out of the competition last night and will head home to face the music from her on again-off again boyfriend following some behind-the-scenes trysts with Luke.
“I’m sort of on-off with my boyfriend so I don’t know what’s happening there, but Luke’s a great guy. Of course I’m attracted to him, but who knows what will happen,” she told Confidential.
Eighteen-year-old Luke would be expecting some questions from his live-in girlfriend at home in Perth, too.
The poor girl has already had a run of bad luck after auditioning unsuccessfully for the show herself.
Romance aside, Zandt said the competition itself was not without its challenges.
Contestants were asked to pose nude, burn their favourite clothes in a gesture of renewal, and live together full-time.
“I was a little worried about my mum and dad watching me on TV in the nude, but I chose if I wanted to do it and I wanted to do it,” she said.
She said the decision was made on the basis of body confidence.
“Out of everyone in the house everyone thinks I’ve got the best body but I don’t compare bodies. I’m happy with myself.”

Iman’s Chic Goes Global

imanShe is the host of Canada’s version of “Project Runway,” and her visage is known worldwide: long neck, radiant skin, oval face, dazzling smile.
Her lean, graceful physique catapulted her to the ranks of supermodel in the mid-’70s, and now she’s an entrepreneur with her own line of cosmetics, luxury handbags and jewelry. She is also the mother of two, and her hubby is British rock star David Bowie.
Oh, to be Iman. It’s a glamorous life. But she’ll be the first to tell you it isn’t easy.
“Thank God for computers,’” exclaims the 53-year-old during a telephone interview from her home in New York. She just wrapped up the second season of Project Runway Canada. “You have to be very organized to do all of this and have children. I pace myself. And I don’t have to do it all in one day.”
Iman will be in the Tampa Bay area Friday and Sept. 27 to introduce the fall handbag and jewelry lines from Iman Global Chic on HSN. She will appear live from 11 p.m. to midnight Friday on the Shopping Channel and during several time slots starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 27.
The line includes bold, colorful costume jewelry and sleek handbags and clutches.
Iman says Global Chic, which she launched last year, was inspired by her own style and wardrobe and her extensive travels to countries such as Africa, India and Bali.
One of the items in the line is a replica of the ring her husband gave her on their 15th wedding anniversary – without the Bowie price tag. It sells for $59.95.
Another favorite is a gold-plated cuff bracelet styled after a limited-edition piece in her jewelry box. It’s $49.95.
“I have a weakness for bold, strong jewelry,” Iman says. “And it’s a huge trend right now. Plus-size women can wear big jewelry. I want every shape and size to be able to wear my jewelry. This is the stuff I love.”
And let’s not forget the bags. Iman’s line features totes, satchels and envelope clutches made from faux python, faux croc, leather and patent leather.
“Bags and jewelry can change a trend and update a look from season to season,” she says. “I like bags that are multifunctional. I go to PTA meetings, I’m a wife and mother. There are women out there who multitask just like I do. I wanted to create bags that multitask and are good quality with high affordability.”
Born in Somalia, Iman’s modeling career began in 1975 when she was recruited by an American photographer and relocated to the United States. Her first modeling assignment was for Vogue in 1976. Dozens of magazine covers and designer shows followed.
Iman says she has seen a sharp decline in the number of black models on the runway.
Last year, she and other fashion industry insiders teamed up with agent and former model Bethann Hardison to call attention to the lack of black models on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
“This industry is so behind,” says Iman, who along with Hardison founded the Black Girls Coalition to encourage diversity in fashion. “At the end of the day, you don’t want to be a category, you just want the opportunity to work. If you’re not good enough for the job, that’s one thing, but not to use black models because they are black is just racist. In any other industry you would be sued for something like that. They just need a chance. We are on the verge of seeing a black president. We can have more black models working.”

Modelling tips from top model Roshumba Williams

roshumba williams
Fashion Week is almost over, and if you’ve ever wondered what goes through a model’s head as they’re looking sexy and pouting, Campbell Live can now reveal it is chocolate.
American supermodel Roshumba Williams shared some of the secret tips of her trade with Campbell Live.
Roshumba Williams’ tips:
- Although it’s glamorous and you can make a lot of money, there are also a lot of scams, traps and pitfalls. So the more knowledgeable you are about the business, the better equipped you are to make a career inside the business and around the industry as well.
- Mums out there, if your daughters 15 and wants to get on a plane and go and be a model in Italy, don’t let her do it. It’s not a good idea. She has to have a escort or someone to watch out for her.
- The look comes from what you’re thinking about inside. Most people think we’re thinking about some sexy guy or a romantic evening…no. We’re thinking about either chocolate, cookies or that yummy pair of shoes we saw that we want to get. That’s what’s really going on inside of us and that’s where you get those sexy pouty looks from.
- With old school walk it’s more elegant and flowy, fun and playful – more spinning and turning and playing with the camera.
- New school walk is much bolder. More attitudinal. Where the girls are just straight to camera, straight bold in your face and there’s no playfulness whatsoever.
- If real women started to walk like that on a daily basis with that confidence and carriage – instead of bent over – you present an energy that’s much more above it all.
