On The Cover: Naomi Campbell

naomi campbell
MY BEAUTY ISN’T ONLY skin deep is the fighting message Naomi Campbell is sending critics following her conviction for threatening and abusing airline staff earlier this year.
The supermodel’s new charity work includes raising awareness of the needs of pregnant women in the developing world — working alongside the British prime minister’s wife, Sarah Brown, in the campaign, White Ribbon Alliance.
She also plans to give some of her designer clothes to the people she met in London’s Whitechapel Mission soup kitchen, where she did community service as part of her sentence for an air rage incident. It’s an effort on the part of the 38-year-old British supermodel to clean up her image after assault charges threatened to overshadow her career as the most successful black model ever.
But there’s another reason why Naomi is keen to soften her image, and to launch herself as a paragon of virtue and a pioneering model whose presence on the catwalk has contributed to ethnic models getting work. Naomi is in love, and talking about having a baby.
After years of reportedly suffering from infertility, the model has allegedly been given the go-ahead to conceive and wants to start a family before turning 40. And she believes she has found the right man to begin a family with.
Friends and family say Naomi has been glowing since becoming involved with Russian billionaire property developer Vladislav Doronin — who has been dating Campbell for months — and it was reported that he was ready to propose at Naomi’s charity catwalk show Fashion for Relief, but then decided the setting wasn’t romantic enough. Doronin was reported as saying: “Naomi is wonderful. Will I put a ring on her finger? Maybe very soon.”
Later that evening, Doronin spent €40,000 on a couture gown for the model in a charity auction. And when asked whether a wedding was in the pipeline, Naomi replied: “Oh no, no pressuring that poor man like that. He’s a wonderful gentleman and he’s got great qualities.”
Vladislav has also allegedly bought Campbell a €12.5m penthouse apartment in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A source quoted in the New York Post said: “Naomi told Vladislav how much she loved Brazil and that she really wanted to settle there.”
Naomi and Vladislav were first linked after they met at this year’s Cannes film festival. The couple have since been photographed hugging and sharing intimate gazes by Brazilian newspaper O Dia.
So will remodelling herself as a humanitarian rather than an abuser make Naomi more lovable in the long-run? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Supermodel strikes back: Linda Evangelista’s the designer dominatrix in new photoshoot

linda evanglista
The recent revival of the supermodel shows no sign of waning and these raunchy pictures of Linda Evangelista are proof.
Photographed for a fashion spread in W magazine the Italian beauty strikes a number of dominatrix-style poses in the 11 pictures entitled ‘Love/Hate’.
In a grand manor house setting the narrative follows a designer dressed Linda cavorting with a scantily -clad male model.

In one photograph the spandex-wearing supermodel claws at the man’s thighs as she leans over in a provocative pose, dripping in designer clothes – including a Haute Couture Givenchy feather bolero, Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses and jewel-encrusted Balenciaga boots.
In another similarly suggestive pose the 43-year-old grabs at the leg of the trunk-wearing hunk while she lies back in the pool.

The photoshoot by fashion photographer Steven Klein is one of many new projects the supermodel (who famoulsy said: ‘We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day’) has embarked on recently.
With big name brands turning to familiar faces in the wake of the economic downturn, the 5ft 9.5in model is currently fronting Prada’s Autmun/Winter lace look campaign and was appointed L’Oreal’s international spokesperson last November.
The beauty company announced a profit boost of 20 per cent since she appeared in their TV adverts.
Meanwhile, her contemporaries have followed the trend as Claudia Schiffer has returned to represent Chanel and Naomi Campbell fronts the latest Yves Saint Laurent advertising campaign.

Sara survives cut … for now

sara longman
TERRITORY supermodel-in-waiting Sara Longman has survived sudden-death elimination after a fellow contestant walked off.
Darwin’s dazzler had been relegated to the bottom three by Make Me a Supermodel judges after a torrid fortnight, which saw her in tears after refusing to model half-naked.
But she was saved from the boot when bolshie fellow hopeful Lucas Williams threw in the towel and left the show voluntarily.
He had previously threatened to walk off if Sara was punished for standing up against the pressures of the show.
“I will walk off this set,” he said.
But Sara’s reprieve may be short-lived – she was slapped back in the bottom three last night and is once again vulnerable to public opinion.
Judges were disappointed with her trampoline photo shoot, and judge Martin Walsh said her catwalk stalk was not good enough.
“On the runway you’re still too flat-footed,” he said.
The week had been a mixed success for the 17-year-old Tiwi girl.
She was elevated to house leader, to pull slobby semi-supermodels in line and get the manky model mansion in order.
But her new status rubbed some up the wrong way, with models whingeing that she wasn’t as mature as she put on.
