SHE’S the model of the moment, but Catherine McNeil was a notable absence from Milan Fashion Week after she was struck down by a mystery illness.
The Aussie beauty was forced to pull out of the penultimate fashion event because she was unwell, her agent confirmed yesterday.
While she is recuperating in Europe, it is not yet known whether she will be better in time to take part in the next round of catwalk shows, which begin in France this week.
“She’s just got a recurring sickness,” her local agent Kathy Ward, from Chic Model Management, told Confidential.
“It’s nothing too bad but she does get this problem every so often. She might be at Paris (for Fashion Week) – we’re not sure.” While she would not be drawn on the exact nature of the illness, Ward said McNeil’s hectic schedule may have played a part.
“She works every day,” she said.
“There’s big demands on these girls. During the show season they work from seven in the morning until two in the morning.”
Earlier this month McNeil, who grew up in Queensland, opened the Diane von Furstenberg show at New York Fashion Week.
She also appeared on the pages of September’s American Vogue and stars on the cover of the November issue of Australian Vogue.
At the tender age of 19, the New York-based model has already featured in a Versace campaign with Kate Moss and modelled for Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

Supermodel HEIDI KLUM’s hit reality TV fashion design contest PROJECT RUNWAY has been dealt a severe blow as it plans for a new season – a New York judge has blocked the show’s move to America’s Lifetime network.
The judge has issued a preliminary ruling against the Weinstein Company, which owns Lifetime, to prevent network bosses airing the sixth season of the programme.
Production of the new season is already underway and Lindsay Lohan has filmed her stint as a guest judge in the series opener, which was expected to air on Lifetime in January (09) after the network picked up the show from NBC Universal-owned Bravo.
A statement from NBC reads, “The overwhelming evidence demonstrated that The Weinstein Company violated NBC Universal’s right of first refusal to future cycles of Project Runway. After hearing all of the evidence, the court issued an order prohibiting The Weinstein Company from taking the show or any spin-off to Lifetime.”
A spokeswoman for the Weinstein Co. says, “It’s unfortunate that the people hurt most by this ongoing dispute are the loyal fans of Project Runway. In the meantime, Lifetime will pursue all measures to uphold its valid and binding agreement reached with The Weinstein Co.”
According to the spokeswoman, production on the sixth season will continue, while network bosses continue their legal battle, which is expected to return to court in November (08).

The ‘Wish You Were Here’ style show will feature the Israeli model visiting destinations like Mount Rushmore and offbeat tourist attractions, such as the Museum of Sex in New York, and trying out different cuisines as well.
“This show will change the idea that supermodels don’t eat,” The Daily Express quoted Bar, as saying. Meanwhile, the model was recently in news after she revealed that she does not consider herself to be a supermodel.

Kate Moss is reportedly set to turn to music when she retires from modelling.
The supermodel has revealed she plans to quit the catwalk before she turns 35 and concentrate on a music career instead.
“She has told everyone she won’t carry on modeling after she turns 35 … song writing and being a singer will slowly take over,” a source reveals to ace showbiz.
Kate is no stranger to music and co-wrote songs for the Babyshambles ‘Shotters Nation’ album while dating frontman Pete Doherty.
Kate has also reportedly written material with her latest ex-boyfriend The Kills’ guitarist Jamie Hince before they broke up.
“Kate says, ‘It’s all about Lila. She knows which songs are good and which are rubbish so I go by her,’” the source explained.
