‘This is not just any nude photo, it’s art,’ says Lily Cole as she strips for Playboy

The white socks can be found in the underwear department and the bear in the toy section.
Oh sorry, our mistake. This isn’t an advertisement for Marks & Spencer – Lily Cole is working for someone else.
The model, who is one of the faces of the retailer, has posed nude for French Playboy in a shoot she sees as ‘art’.
In this picture, the cover of the October edition, she clutches the giant pink teddy bear to preserve her modesty.
Miss Cole, 20, who has been accepted at Cambridge University, is featured in a 14-page spread inside the men’s magazine.
The shoot is said to have been inspired by the cover of French musician Serge Gainsbourg’s 1971 album Histoire de Melody Nelson.
In the interview which accompanies the Playboy photos, Miss Cole tries to justify her decision to pose nude.
She says: ‘Nudity has always existed in art, and I think that, given the right conditions, it doesn’t necessarily “debase” any more than it celebrates or represents the human body.’
The magazine pictures triggered controversy even before their release.
There have been calls from some corners for Miss Cole to be dropped by M&S, and a Christian Voice spokesman called on customers to boycott the store.
But a spokesman for M&S said: ‘Lily Cole is a popular, high-profile model who is very much in demand, and this is one of the key reasons why we have chosen to work with her.
‘It’s entirely her own choice as to what other work she accepts and we would not wish to interfere with her career.’

Statue? I Moss be a golden wonder

kate mossSTUNNING Kate Moss proves she is a golden girl after being immortalised in a ?10million life-size statue made of gold.
The supermodel is shown in a kinky yoga position with her feet pulled up behind her head.
Artist Marc Quinn, 44, spent ?1.5m making the work, with the gold costing ?1m.
Named “Siren” by Marc, it was unveiled as part of a new exhibition at the British Museum yesterday.
The sculptor, who cast the babe in bronze for an earlier work, said the 50kg piece is the biggest gold statue to be made since the time of Ancient Egypt.
He said: “I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment. When I showed Kate the statue she told me she loved it.
“She really liked the idea and she modelled for me for a day or so. She didn’t pose for me like that though.
“Kate thinks it lifts her into a mythic level.” The statue is one of several new works in the Statuephilia exhibition at the museum.
The statue will be put among the Nereid Gallery along with all the Greek goddesses.
A spokesman from the Iyengar Yoga Institute in London said: “The artist is showing Kate do-ing the Dwi Pada Sirsasana pose.
“This isn’t something that your average yoga student can do.
“In fact it takes many, many years of practice.
“This pose is also incomplete. The final version would see both of Kate’s feet under her arms, not just one like this statue. It is very, very advanced.”
Other art in the exhibition include 200 specially-created skulls by Damien Hirst, 43, and the huge Case For An Angel I, by Angel Of The North sculptor Antony Gormley, 58.
