The latest Naomi Campbell news doesn’t involve swearing, phone-throwing or generally bad behavior — the supermodel was all elegance and smiles in Miami Tuesday for the opening of an exhibition of fashion photography featuring a retrospective collection of pictures of herself.
“In Fashion Photo,” an open-air exhibition in Miami’s Design District, has more than 250 photos by critically acclaimed fashion photographers like Patrick Demarchelier and Mario Testino, including a special section of 52 images of Ms. Campbell taken over the more than 20 years of her modeling career.
The high-glamour exhibit, timed to coincide with the international art fair Art Basel Miami Beach that takes place this week, offers a reminder of the beautiful magazine spreads and advertising images that Ms. Campbell helped to create. It can be easy to forget this side of the model, who made headlines this year and last for off-the-runway tantrums such as kicking police officers in London’s Heathrow airport in April. Last year, Ms. Campbell was sentenced to a week of community service in Manhattan for throwing a cellphone at a maid.
Since April, however, Ms. Campbell has been relatively controversy free. She’s currently the face of Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall 2008 advertising campaign.

As a ’supermodel’ she has graced all the major catwalk shows and magazine throughout the world. Here Hilary Alexander explains why Claudia Schiffer has been picked once again to front YSL’s latest ad campaign…
Claudia Schiffer, the Comeback Queen, has been named as the latest ‘supermodel’ to become the ‘face’ of Yves Saint Laurent.
The German former catwalk star follows in the stiletto heels of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and the flame-haired Brit, Karen Elson, all of whom have been hand-picked by YSL’s creative director, Stefano Pilati, to front the brand’s major advertising campaigns.
The new campaign starring Claudia Schiffer was shot in the iconic Hollywood Hills by the photographic ‘dream team’ of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and will begin appearing in January when the February editions of the glossies hit the newstands.
The exclusive shot, pictured above, is the first to be released and is the image Pilati has selected as the cover of his fourth fashion ‘mission statement’, the Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto, which will be distributed worldwide on February 14th, 2009.
Schiffer’s fame dates from the late 80s when she was discovered in a Düsseldorf nightclub at the age of 15. She became an overnight sensation when fellow German, the couturier and designer, Karl Lagerfeld, dubbed her the ’new Bridgette Bardot’ and sent her down the Chanel catwalk in Paris as the new ‘face’ of the brand.
Although her walk was criticised as less than graceful, she was an immediate hit and her global appeal was assured when she appeared in a Guess? jeans advertising campaign. She became the first model to make the covers of Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone magazine, the New York Times and People.
After a decade as a supermodel, she gradually took on fewer and fewer modelling assignments. She married the British film producer-director Matthew Vaughan in 2002, who gave her a tortoise instead of a wedding ring.
The couple have two children and an Elizabethan mansion in Suffolk, as well as homes in London, New York, Germany and Monte Carlo.
She made a spectacular return to the international fashion scene when she rejoined forces with Karl Lagerfeld as the ‘face’ of this year’s Chanel spring/summer campaign.
Now 38, she says: ”I know one day I’ll be considered too old. But I think 40-year-old women actually look more healthy and fit than some girls in their 20s. I’ve met women who have way better bodies in their 40s because they’ve been working on them for all these years.”

Supermodel-turned-talkshow host TYRA BANKS avoids romance with fellow celebrities – instead choosing to meet potential boyfriends through blind dates.
The America’s Next Top Model beauty has most recently been linked to New York banker John Utendahl, but was previously rumoured to be dating former basketball star Chris Webber and director John Singleton.
But she insists she isn’t looking to find love with another famous person – because the media attention would be too much to handle.
She tells Ebony magazine, “One thing I can say is I try not to date people who are famous because one celebrity plus another celebrity equals five… The paparazzi will just start mixing my name with theirs.
“I find it fascinating looking at other celebs dating each other and I’m like, ‘Look how cool they look!’ But it’s not a personal interest of mine, I get set up by my friends. It’s the hook up!”

She may be a decade older than most of her counterparts, but Heidi Klum still reigns supreme among the Victoria’s Secret troupe of models.
The 35-year-old upstaged the next generation of lingerie stars as she rocked the red carpet in a micro black dress in New York City.
The supermodel was out to celebrate the opening of the Victoria’s Secret flagship store in Lexington Avenue.
Marisa Miller, Doutzen Kroes and Miranda Kerr, who are the newest models to be given their wings by the lingerie giant, also turned out for the affair.
The brand’s other top models Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Selita Ebanks rounded out the VIP guest list.
Despite the gaggle of gorgeous women it was Heidi, who is married to singer Seal and has three children, that managed to steal the spotlight.
The German blonde is one of the most recognisable and in-demand models on the international circuit.
As well as her Victoria’s Secret commitments, she hosts popular fashion show Project Runway and recently filmed a Risky Business inspired ad for video game Guitar Hero.
