Christy Turlington: Model Mom & Activist

Christy_Turlington
Fifteen years into her retirement, Christy Turlington has plenty to keep her busy. British newspaper The Times recently caught up with the 40-year-old supermodel mom, who has kids Grace, 5, and Finn, 3, with her husband Ed Burns, about her family life and new career path.
Long involved in health and human rights issues, Christy is currently completing a master’s degree in Public Health at Columbia University. She also spent the past year traveling to Tanzania, Bangladesh and Guatemala working on a self-financed film on maternal health titled, No Woman, No Cry.
In an interview with Vogue last month, Christy talked about the movie – and her new career.
“Now I’m 40 and getting this degree, I might be on the cusp of the career that I always wanted. Maternal deaths mean there are very serious things going on under the radar about women’s status. There is aid for children, but without mothers, what are their chances of survival? International health-care reform is moving toward the American model, but it’s broken. The United States ranks forty-first in maternal health. I think one of the reasons we’re doing more Cesarean sections here is because that means more people in the delivery room, and the hospital can charge you for four days instead of two. It’s all for profit and not about taking care of people.”

Gisele Bundchen: Environmentally Friendly

Gisele_Bundchen
Showing off her growing baby bump, Gisele Bundchen was spotted out in New York’s Washington Square Park for her Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program duties on Sunday afternoon (September 20).
There for a good cause, the Brazilian supermodel is doing her best to help the UNEP in its mission to raise awareness and promote action to protect the environment. She tells, “The environment has always been my passion. I grew up in a small town and I had the opportunity to live surrounded by nature. I couldn’t have asked for a better childhood. We must act now, so future generations have the same opportunity. Mother Earth is our fundamental life-support system, and by becoming aware and responsible now, we can assist in preserving the planet. I have been working on environmental issues for a long time and agreed to become a Goodwill Ambassador to be part of a global and far-reaching organization. Now it’s about action on a global scale to secure a healthy future for the next generation, wherever they live in the world.”
At the same time, Miss Bundchen’s hubby, Tom Brady, was busy playing in nearby Giants Stadium as his New England Patriots took on the New York Jets.

Geek Tyra Banks

Tyra_BanksTyra Banks was a teenage geek.
The US supermodel loved school so much she used to complete her homework on Friday evenings so she could keep learning.
She revealed on her Twitter page: “4 students: do ur homework on fridays cuz then won’t be haunting u all weekend.i used 2 do it soon as i got hme.fri, sat, sun was fun then (sic)!”
The 35-year-old star also gave adults some inspirational advice on her blog, advising them to “get up and make that money”.
Tyra then seemed to realise her advice was not the most tactful given the ongoing global financial crisis which has left millions of people worldwide unemployed.
She wrote: “i send luv and support to you if u are struggling now.it is so hard out there right now.i wish u prosperity, i wish u a job.i know it’s hard.
“oops. i forgot about the kids. get up and get yo butt to school. and if u r there, stop reading this tweet! pay attention to your teacher (sic)!!!”

Kate Moss takes wannabe designer under her wing at Topshop show (well she is Sir Philip’s daughter)

Kate_Moss
It’s not unusual for teenage girls to have aspirations to design their own clothing range.
But when your dad is Sir Philip Green, billionaire owner of the Arcadia Group, its a lot easier to make those dreams a reality.
Chloe, the 18-year-old daughter of Sir Philip, had a front-row seat next to supermodel Kate Moss at the Topshop Unique fashion show today.
The smiling pair have been frequently pictured together in recent months. And with her lucrative clothing range for Sir Philip’s store Topshop, Kate is well placed to lend Chloe a hand.
‘I’m designing my own fashion range, which is really exciting,’ Chloe told a friend last week.
‘My father knows that this is what I want to do and is fully supportive. It helps because of what he does for a living and I’ve grown up in the business.’
Kate looked happy to be with Chloe, as is only to be expected – her deal with Topshop is estimated to be worth millions.
At the show, part of London Fashion Week, Kate showed off her figure in a pair of white hotpants, a floral jacket and grey trilby.
She was accompanied by boyfriend Jamie Hince, as she arrived for the show.
