It appeared to be the death of the model at London Fashion Week as celebrities dominated the catwalk this season.
From Peaches and Pixie Geldof to Big Brother contestant Lisa Wallace, designers continue to buck tradition, choosing ‘real women’ to showcase their collections.
Thankfully for the ailing industry though, runway queen Naomi Campbell has stepped in to revive the dying breed.
The supermodel took the Issa Spring/Summer 2010 show by storm, revealing a flawless figure that would leave most of her waifish counterparts green with envy.
Naomi, 39, who chooses the designs she wishes to model, opted for a monochrome one-shouldered swimsuit to show off her curves – a move which earned her cheers of approval from the excited audience at Somerset House.
Celebrating LFW’s 25th anniversary, the London-born star, who also modeled for Issa last year, showed off a statement floral print dress and matching bikini and wide-brimmed hat.
Finishing off with a floor-length hatler-neck gown, Naomi showed her support to Issa designer Daniella Helayel as they held hands to mark the end of the show.
Helayel told the Telegraph: ‘Naomi is the pure hurricane, she’s the best walker on the catwalk, she’s the sunshine after the storm.
‘Every time she walks the audience screams and claps! I am very pleased she wanted to wear three outfits as she only wears what she likes. She is the top model in swim wear and looks better than any 21 year old I know.’
Issa, originally created in 2001, was born when Helayel couldn’t find a dress to wear and decided to design her own.
Practical but stylish tailoring has generated interest from Hollywood as celebrities from Gwen Stefani to Madonna have all been pictured in Issa originals.
Asked who her ideal customer is, Helayel said: ‘The Queen of England. She is not just a style icon, but an icon in every sense of the word.’
Naomi meanwhile has expressed her displeasure with the fashion industry.
The feisty clothes horse claims there is still little room for black models.
She said: ‘The only time they care about black models is in February because it is Black History Month.
‘Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington would go to big designers and say, “If you don’t pick Naomi to be in your show, then I don’t want to be in it.”
‘That’s how I got Prada and Helmut Lang. The only reason I got the cover of French Vogue was because Yves Saint Laurent called up and told them he’d pull his ads if they didn’t. So of course I got the cover.’

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who has been named the goodwill ambassador of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) for climate change, has asked developing countries including China and India to invest in green technologies.
“They should invest on green energy and really put their money into that,” Bundchen told PTI.
“The whole idea is to reduce the gas they are emitting and not create more of it so that they can continue to keep their development but just studying new forms of doing it in a different way,” the 29-year-old model added.
In her first public appearance as the goodwill ambassador, Bundchen told a gathering near New York University that her attention was first drawn to climate change after witnessing severe water problems in villages in the Amazon jungle.
“We have to take responsibility otherwise it will be too late and this is why I am here and doing this,” she added. The supermodel also runs a blog on climate change.
Top UN official for environment Achim Steiner, who came in from Nairobi spoke of the drought in Kenya and the severe water shortage in the city.
“Maybe New York will still have water but many parts of Africa, parts of Latin America will no longer know where to find their water,” he said.
