Miranda Kerr Bares Her Skin

Miranda_Kerr
Miranda Kerr
is turning out to be the total package. Of the list of requirements to obtain the status of supermodel, Kerr has been able to check off dating a heartthrob actor, landing a major ad campaign, and becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She has the boyfriend, the bod, and now she has her own beauty brand. Homegirl just released a brand new skin care line, Kora, of which Zoe from Primped had to go to the ends of the earth to get the lowdown for (something about a car chase with a chimp and an envelope). In any case, everyone’s favorite angel extends her zen/yoga/holistic lifestyle with Kora, a natural line named for a type of meditation Tibetan Buddhists practice. I really, really want to say how gimmicky this all sounds, but it’s hard not to like the girl and her approach to the line, especially when she swears she has her own acne problems, and she has been known to get greasy. The more I think about it, it’s no wonder she had so much input in the organic line, Kerr has been a gluten-free advocate, believes in the all-natural life, and even studied health and psychology at the Academy of Natural Living. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, the school does exist, and yes, classes are taught by Leonardo DiCaprio. All joking aside, I am really excited that another high-profile celebrity is putting their name on a brand that takes the environment into consideration. The line will only be sold in the Australian store David Jones, but I’m certain her reach will find a major international department store soon.

Claudia Schiffer steps off the catwalk

caludia
Claudia Schiffer
has ruled out any glimmer of hope we had of a return to the catwalk as it’s announced she has officially stepped off the runway.
Despite admitting recently she looks and feels better than ever, the supermodel confirmed she won’t be following in the footsteps of fellow model Natalia Vodianova, who returned to the catwalk in Milan after an eight year absence.
But fear not, fashion fans, Claudia – who is the current face of Alberta Ferreti’s fragrance – will still continue her work as a model off catwalk.
“I am finished with the runway,” said the 39-year-old, according to Vogue UK. “I won’t miss it. I am still modelling and I enjoy that a lot but no more runways.”
“I can sit on the side and view the outfits and see all the detail and that suits me fine,” she said. “It’s very enjoyable. I like my new viewpoint.”
We guess being a mother of two and one of the most successful and highest paid supermodels takes it’s tow. After 21 years in the business, we think we can forgive her.

Carla Bruni launches website

Carla_BruniPARIS – FRENCH first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy launched a website Monday to publicise her charity work and give the world a glimpse of the former supermodel’s life in the Elysee with President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Bruni, who already had a successful career as a pop star before marrying the twice-divorced Sarkozy after a whirlwind romance in 2008, already has a website dedicated to her musical career.
The new site, www.carlabrunisarkozy.org, covers three topics: a foundation to help the underprivileged in France, her work as ambassador for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria and life as France’s first lady.
When it went online the site was immediately swamped by visitors, with a notice stating that it ‘was a victim of its own success’ and requesting visitors to try again in a few hours.
Bruni’s launch came just days after her husband took another big step in the Internet communications world by saying he would track his every move at a forthcoming climate summit in Denmark on Twitter, the microblogging website.
Mr Sarkozy already has a page on the social networking website Facebook.

Waris Dirie: supermodel survivor

Waris_DirieSomalian supermodel Waris Dirie has graced the pages of glossy magazines and starred opposite 007 as a Bond Girl. But her glamorous appearances on catwalks and in magazines and films belies the personal battles Dirie has had to overcome.
Dirie is a leading voice against forced circumcision and female genital mutilation (FGM) and struggled to overcome her own circumcision at the age of five. The forthcoming film, “Desert Flower”, based on her biography, tells her story.
Yet it is through her charitable foundation that Dirie hopes that the practice still common in traditions in parts of Africa, the Middle East, South American and Asia will not create more cases similar to her own.
Growing up with a nomadic family in Somalia she was one of 12 children. She fled to the London, where one of her uncles was working in the Somali embassy, to avoid an arranged marriage with an older man. She was just 13-years-old at the time. After working as a housemaid and in a McDonald’s restaurant she was spotted by chance by fashion photographer Terrance Donovan and became the covergirl for the 1987 Pirelli calendar.
Becoming the face of beauty products and design houses, her successful modeling career has given her a life far removed from her childhood. Yet for Dirie more importantly it has created a platform to campaign against FGM. In 2002 she created the Waris Dirie Foundation and has been given a number of honors in recognition of her work.
