Coco Rocha Named Her Clothing Line ‘Rococo’

Coco_Rocha 3Last night, model Coco Rocha covered the Grammys red carpet for ET Canada, wearing the first piece from her clothing line. She also revealed its name — Rococo — which she selected from entries to the naming contest she held on her blog. Rococo was submitted by a 21-year-old male student from the Bronx, whom Coco seems to have forgotten to acknowledge in her big name-reveal post. Rococo is actually kind of clever, since the dress she wore last night was pretty rococo itself. She has said she loves “1800, costume-y, but elegant, Victorian-inspired clothes,” and her medieval-esque dress fit the bill. We like that she’s not afraid of looking “costume-y,” but why not go one step further than those gold bra inserts on her shoulders and top her head with a cone hat and veil? Throw on a petticoat, flare the sleeves till they hit the floor, and grab a wand and affix the end with a salt shaker full of glitter. Coco has strong features and a great figure. She can pull off anything.

Claudia Schiffer’s sleepy pampering

claudia-schiffer 3
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer always wants to fall asleep when she has her make-up done because she finds it so relaxing.
Claudia Schiffer wants to fall asleep when she has her make-up done. The supermodel – who recently announced she was expecting her third child with director husband Matthew Vaughn – has always enjoyed being pampered and finds it incredibly relaxing. She said: ‘When I first started out, I couldn’t wait to get my make-up on, as I was always very shy and it gave me confidence. I still love it when people touch my skin or hair; it makes me feel so relaxed, I could fall asleep.’ Over the years of being a model, Claudia has been given lots of useful tips by make-up artists and some of them she still uses now. The 39-year-old beauty told Britain’s InStyle magazine: ‘Make-up artists have taught me about contouring. You can sculpt your cheekbones by dusting different tones of brown shadow just underneath them.’ Although she is now retired from the catwalk, Claudia still likes to take care of her appearance and claims Pilates has been a revolution in her life. She said: ‘I discovered Pilates in my 30s and, for the first time in my life, I enjoy working out, which makes a big difference.’

Macpherson’s Next Top Model

elle-macpherson-2205-10
It was rumoured that Naomi Campbell was set to become Britain’s answer to Tyra Banks, taking the helm of the NTM franchise in the UK – but it seems Australian model and businesswoman Elle Macpherson will be the one the hopefuls have to impress this year.
Macpherson was unveiled as the new face of the show this morning – and is looking forward to the challenge.
“I am really enthusiastic and motivated to work with the team of Britain’s Next Top Model to create an authentic and exciting programme, both for the contestants and the viewers at home,” the supermodel told Digital Spy earlier today. “We are looking forward to finding the face that can represent the next generation.”
Macpherson takes over from former host Lisa Snowdon, who has revealed she is leaving to focus on presenting her radio show with Capital FM.
Cycle 6 of Britain’s Next Top Model begins this spring on Living.

Daisy Lowe celebrates 21st birthday in style

933080bThe nicest girl in fashion celebrated her birthday last week and what a birthday it was. No hiring of the local boozer for Daisy Lowe, the London hipster threw a special bash for all her fashion friends at Babington House in Somerset.
Was there dressing up? Certainly. Daisy wowed her guests in not one but two dazzling outfits during the evening. ‘I had two beautiful costumes – my first, from [costume hire company] Prangsta was like an ice queen which I wore to dinner and then a bespoke creation I worked on with Kate Halfpenny for the party,’ she wrote on Vogue.co.uk.
To round off the fun and frolics, mum Pearl Lowe played a video montage of Daisy as a kid. Cringy parental behaviour? Now that’s more like it!

Abbey Lee Kershaw’s bondi romp

abbey-lee4When we spoke to photographer/musician/magazine editor Max Doyle last year he vaguely mentioned a Bondi cover shoot for a big Australian fashion publication. Well, turns out it was this Abbey Lee Kershaw cover for the March issue of Australian Vogue which also features a cameo by onetime Paris Hilton flame Tyler Atkins.
Far from the vapid/superficial connotations that Bondi can sometimes carry, Abbey manages to make sand and straddling seem chic without once resorting to nudity. Check out the editorial below and head to www.vogue.com.au for a behind the scenes video.

Naomi Campbell nude for Love

love1
Creative marketing techniques and self-promotion campaigning is not traditionally the route taken by fashion magazines, however British publication LOVE has transcended the standard ’subscribe-and-receive-free-gift-of-notebook-or-ugly-hat’ approach to marketing, in an inspired campaign.
The cover of their forthcoming third issue has been kept tightly under wraps, so to generate buzz (AKA mass titillation) LOVE has been posting a series of teaser covers on their blog to count down the final seven days before the mag hits the news stands. The faux covers, photographed by regular LOVE contributers Mert and Marcus, are fronted by some of the most photogenic women in the world wearing naught but a touch of strategically placed graphic design.
New runway darlings on the block, Lara Stone and Jeneil Williams, have kicked off the kit-off campaign, followed by (in order of appearance) androgynous Nineties icon Kristin McMenamy, Daria Werbowy, Amber Valetta, Natalia Vodianova, and – as of today – Naomi Campbell, so we can only imagine who will face up over the last two days of the countdown. Based on the progression from Stone to Campbell, we’re guessing the only people who can possibly up the excitement stakes are the big guns: Linda, Christy or Kate. Not to mention the (presumably naked) person could possibly be on the ACTUAL cover…
The year old fashion tome – which favours progressive, cutting-edge and artful fashion content (in the same ballpark as Purple and Lula) – is a twice-yearly affair whose previous cover models have been a nearly-nude Beth Ditto and a shirtless youth of no note. With the build up they’ve started with their naked-supermodels campaign, anyone less than a starkers David Bowie AND Iman will disappoint.
The countdown continues…

‘I’m holding together pretty good’: Cindy Crawford shows off her stunning figure at 43

cindy crawford 3It’s been 25 years – and more than 1000 front covers – since Cindy Crawford burst onto the modelling scene.
But at 43 the original supermodel has proved she’s still got the looks, and the body, which made her a superstar.
Posing in a series of black outfits, she showed off her figure in the latest edition of Harper’s Bazaar.
Refreshingly, it seems Cindy appreciates her good fortune.
In a recent interview the mother-of-two admitted she was pleased with how her body had aged.
‘I think I’m holding together pretty good,’ she said.
But she did admit that she had experimented with holding back the years.
‘There’s a doctor here in London who I’ve gone to for Botox,’ she said.
‘I did a whole skincare line with him. But I haven’t done Botox for ten years. And I didn’t do collagen, I don’t think.’
The American, who now has her own range of beauty products, said she had contemplated more drastic surgery, dismissing it because it made other women look ‘unreal’.
Cindy, married to ex-model and businessman Rande Gerber, also revealed: ‘Because people have such expectations of what they are going to find when they see me, that brings added pressure to fight the ageing process.’

Boarding school girl tipped to become the next Lily Cole after being spotted on a train

Jasmine Munting
At 5ft 9in and with striking looks, Jasmine Munting was always going to turn heads.
But after catching the eye of a model scout as she boarded a London train, her life changed for ever.
The 17-year-old is being hailed as the next Lily Cole or Kate Moss after being named among the 2010 Models To Watch by Vogue magazine.
Previous recipients of the accolade include Agyness Deyn, who has become one of the biggest names on the catwalk and a Jean Paul Gaultier regular, and Lily Donaldson, now the face of Burberry.
Miss Cole’s breakthrough came from a similar appearance on the front of Italian Vogue in 2003.
For Jasmine, her future was altered by a chance encounter in July 2007 in a scene reminiscent of the Gwyneth Paltrow film Sliding Doors, which tells the parallel stories of how a woman’s life changes depending on whether or not she manages to catch a particular train.
The teenager was going to see friends when she randomly switched carriages at the last moment as she boarded a train at Clapham Junction in South London.
By chance she found herself standing next to someone who works at Select Model Management, who told her she had what it takes to make it on the catwalk.
‘This woman was looking and looking at me,’ said Jasmine, who lives in a ?400,000 semi-detached house in Barnes, South-West London, with her mother Sally, 55.
‘Then she said, “Are you interested in being a model?” I know you have to be careful but I took her card and gave them a ring later, which is how it all started.
‘The weird thing is that I had been heading towards one set of doors when, for some reason, I went to another. I don’t know why I changed my mind, but I’m now very glad I did. If I’d chosen another door I wouldn’t have been scouted, and I wouldn’t have been doing this.’
Jasmine, whose professional model name is Frida, attends the ?23,000-a-year King Edward’s boarding school in Godalming, Surrey.
Academically bright, she was awarded a bursary by the school to help with the fees when she was 11.
She combines studying for A-levels in business studies, food technology and drama with modelling assignments which have taken her all over the world.
Her first job was for teenage magazine Mizz, but she quickly graduated to major campaigns for Levis, Benetton and Top Shop.
She has worked in New York and even flown to Paris to appear in an advertisement for Yves Saint Laurent with French actor Vincent Cassel.
‘I was in class when the phone rang and they said you have to be in Paris in two hours,’ said Jasmine, who hopes to study marketing at university. ‘It was just unbelievable.
‘The school has been supportive. Sometimes I take my books so I can work if I have a few minutes free on a shoot.’
Despite her success Jasmine’s parents, Sally and Erol, 48, a retired counsellor, who are separated, are keen to keep her feet on the ground. She does not get regular pocket money and has to ask her mother for cash if she wants new clothes.
Mrs Munting, a retired NHS maternity nurse, said: ‘When Vogue mentioned her as one to watch it was really encouraging and super that people in her industry, who know what they’re talking about, have shown an interest in her.
‘I just hope she continues to do well and enjoys every minute of it. To me she’s still Jasmine and she’s beautiful whether she’s modelling or not.’
