Gemma Ward in the new Pirates of the Caribbean trailer
The fourth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean is coming out next year, and it features one familiar Australian face. Gemma Ward, in her third big screen role after making it modelling, is playing a mermaid. And it doesn’t seem like she’s the flirty, fishy kind either. Although she only appears for 3 seconds of the 3 minute trailer, in that time she emerges from the water all sweet and spooky, then later launches herself at the camera with a mask of fury.
Much like her role as Dollface, an assassin in thriller flick The Strangers, this part suits Ward’s ethereal face perfectly. But after a breakout performance in the Black Balloon, it’s pretty clear Ward has serious acting chops as well as stunning features.
Notably absent from the movie is Miranda Kerr’s babydaddy Orlando Bloom – with Penelope Cruz taking his tanned, pretty, pouting place.
Despite online speculation, fellow Aussie model Catherine McNeil is not in the film, however, the movie will feature a McNeil lookalike, Spanish actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey.
