After the big success of the first edition, also for 2009 the Milan appointment with the high end jewellery is confirmed: from February 22nd to the 24th 2009, will take place ABOUT J, the Vicenza Fair event dedicated to the Italian and international top jewellery for selected buyers.
The 2009 edition will take place close to the Milan Fashion Week, confirming its bond with the luxury markets, and straightening the match between jewel et art de vie, between luxury and fashion meant as style, and between art, craftsmanship and design.
This year, the synergy between jewel and fashion is tighten up also thanks to a strong cooperation between the Chamber of Fashion and Vicenza Fair, with the aim of promoting together the event.
For the 2009 edition, a new, high impact location has been chosen: the East End Studios, located in Via Mecenate: the result of a careful restoration of an airplane factory, transformed in an area capable to combine the modernity of the present with the suggestion of a glorious history of production.
The entrance is exclusively reserved to the AJ Card holder, guaranteeing the J Community, composed of selected exhibitors, buyers, press and industry people, the free entrance to the facilities (open bar, free light lunches), the courtesy shuttle services to and from the hotels, and to the gala evenings.
The selected exhibiting companies will participate with an “all inclusive“ formula, that includes booth-fitting on stream of coordinated and modular exhibiting areas (from 20 sqm to 80 sqm).
Also this year, the interior design, coordinated by Hangar Design Group, talks with the sophistication language; the personalization of the areas and the uniqueness of the brands are guaranteed by the corporate, the company names and pictures of the jewels.
The lounge areas (chill out, open bar, light lunches, media centre), located near the areas dedicated to the brand, are a daily meeting point for buyers, companies and press.
The rich selection of international buyers consists of 250 selected buyers coming from all around the world, in particular from Russia and ex Soviet Union areas, East Europe, Middle East, Caribbean, South America, China and Japan.
The top Italian retailers will be more then 350, representing the high-end national market.
For all the guest is guarantee the possibility to incorporate with the companies and all the participants, not only during the days of the event, but also during the evening side events offered by About J to the Community.
In fact, the AJ entertainment program for the protagonists and the Community foreseen the possibility to live Milan, with three days of events during the Fashion week.
The official About J opening will be on February 22nd, in occasion of the Opening Gala Event by the prestigious Palazzo Mezzanotte, home of the Stock Exchange, in downtown Milan. Special guest of the evening will be the Paris band Festival Mibely.
In occasion of the 2009 edition, AJ introduce the Best Buyer Award: for buyers that will confirm their orders made during the event by March 25th 2009, Vicenza Fair will offer the possibility to obtain special travel packages to Italy and an hospitality program in occasion of the Film Festival and of the next edition of Choice.
The promotion of the event will be supported by a strong media planning in cooperation with the Condé Nast Group, media partner in the organization of About J. For the protagonists of the event, they will create an About J 2009 special in the Vogue Gioiello Magazine.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend’s latest job is for Hurley’s spring 2009 range.
The Israeli model says she took the assignment because she loves “how their beach culture lifestyle incorporates fashion and makes it look and feel sexy and effortless”.
Bar was a great choice as the face of the brand.
Judging by this snap no one does sexy and effortless better than her.

Yesterday reports surfaced that Gemma Ward, the baby-faced, blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty, would be retiring from modeling to pursue her blossoming acting career. But today we have news to the contrary, straight from the model herself.
“I was surprised to wake up this morning and read news of my own retirement. While I am taking some time off currently to rest and enjoy the company of friends and family, I am still very much a (excited and enthusiastic) working model and actress. I’m only 20, for God’s sakes.”
Hear that? She’s only 20. Let the girl have a break! Her agency, IMG, did confirm for us, however, that she will be taking off through the end of September, which means we won’t be seeing her on the spring 2009 runways. That said, we’ll be watching carefully to see where she plants herself for her modeling reappearance. It’s bound to be something big.

Australian model Gemma Ward has been branching out recently taking acting roles in major films.
She has already starred in both The Strangers and Black Balloon.
Pedestrian magazine is today claiming that Gemma Ward is close to officially retiring from modeling.
They say that she is retiring to pursue her Hollywood acting career.
I think that Gemma is a great model and looks amazing in editorials for fashion magazines.
Here she is pictured on the catwalk at Valentino where she looks gorgeous.
The retirement has not officially been announced yet but it’s been rumoured for a while.
We wish her luck in Hollywood!

What sets Miranda Kerr apart from the other models on the David Jones catwalk?
On last Wednesday night, the big difference between the bubbly bikini babe and the other clothes horses was that she was the only one smiling.
A flash of personality definitely livens a catwalk.
While Kerr beamed, bounced, posed, pouted and played up for the cameras, the other girls looked as if they had been hit with the glum stick.
Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns’ girlfriend, Louise van de Vorst, looked particularly severe.
Kerr certainly was gorgeous, but after the exhausting and saturated media blitz in the lead up to her David Jones debut the poor girl needed to announce a cure for global warming or a solution to Victoria’s water crisis to live up to the hype.
As it was, the guests saw a stunning young lady, with an enviable figure, cute dimples, long legs and the ability to walk and smile at the same time.

Fashion model Agyness Deyn and Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. are reportedly engaged.
A source said: “They just got engaged. It happened within the past few days.”
Since the couple attended the Songwriters Hall of Fame awards ceremony in New York on June 20, the pair have been inseparable.
A friend of the couple added: “They’re really sweet. They haven’t been apart for more than three seconds in the past two months.”
It was also reported that Agyness has been living with Albert, 28, while she is looking for an apartment in New York.

Naomi Campbell is reported to have told friends she will marry Russian billionaire boyfriend Vladislav Doronin.
The 38-year-old model was allegedly overheard at the Fiat Playa disco in Sardinia saying: ‘This time I’ll marry. Vladi is the right man for me.’
The pair were with friends in the VIP lounge, Corriere della Sera reported.
The Italian newspaper also claimed that when Campbell saw the waitresses serving them were dressed in flimsy outfits she asked managers to make sure they were served only by men.
She also bizarrely later asked them to bring in 50 wheelbarrows of sand so she could dance on it, the newspaper reported.
But Miss Campbell’s spokesman has said these reports are untrue.

Heather Arrick, who went by the name “Heather Stohler” in her professional life, was killed Sunday morning after a fire swept through the upstairs apartment she shared with her boyfriend.
Arrick, 29, grew up in Frankton before moving to Florida. She went on to a modeling career that took her to the runways of Europe, got her into photo shoots with Kate Moss for Calvin Klein and landed her on the cover of major fashion magazines.
“I’ve known her since I was 12,” said Travis May, 30, who met Arrick while both were attending Frankton Junior High School. “She was great, very thoughtful. She never forgot the little things, like your birthday.”
The Vincennes Fire Department was notified at 8:48 a.m. Sunday of a fire at 604 Broadway St. by another tenant of the building.
“Upon arrival, flames were visible,” Vincennes Fire Chief Mike Lankford told the Sun-Commercial. “About three-fourths of the apartment was a total loss, and the estimated damage amount is over $15,000.”
Arrick and her live-in boyfriend, 26-year-old Daniel Risley, were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. Risley was transferred to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, but was pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Tuesday. Lankford said Risley suffered burns over a “substantial” portion of his body.
Knox County Coroner Dan Halter told fire officials Arrick died of smoke inhalation. Fire officials ruled the fire that consumed the apartment was accidental, but no exact cause has been released.
Arrick was born Nov. 29, 1978. May said she was raised by her adoptive parents, Ron and Jackie Arrick, in Frankton. After graduating from Frankton High School, she moved to Riverview, Fla., to join her biological mother, Angela Edwards.
It was in Florida that Arrick discovered her modeling potential.
“It was one of those modeling things at the local mall,” May said. “She tried out, and she was just a natural, so she ran with it.”
Arrick had the kind of strong bone structure models are known for, yet possessed a softness in her face. She had deep-set eyes that convey a sense of mystery in many of her photos. At 5-feet-9, she was ideal for modeling.
She joined the Elite Model Management and Ford Models agencies and was later represented by Donald Trump Management. Arrick modeled clothing for Calvin Klein, appeared in ads with Kate Moss and graced the cover of Marie Claire’s German edition and Vogue’s Italian edition.
“She was a model for close to 10 years,” May said. “She was on the cover of Vogue nine times. She did shows in Paris, Milan, New York. She lived in London for five years and had an apartment in Manhattan for four or five years.”
May said he spoke to Arrick by phone less than a year ago, at which time she was living in Florida. Tim Allen, Arrick’s cousin, told the Sun-Commercial that Arrick left the modeling world a few years ago and speculated that Risley had family in the Vincennes area, though none has come forward.

With an estimated $35 million in earnings, Gisele Bundchen is still the world’s top-earning model, according to Forbes.com’s annual list.
In the last 12 months, Bundchen made more than double the $14 million earned by Heidi Klum, who came in second, according to Forbes.
Rounding out the top five are Kate Moss ($7.5 million), Adriana Lima ($7 million) and Doutzen Kroes ($6 million). The latter, a 23-year-old from Holland, was second-to-last on the list last year.
“I wish we had snapped her up a long time ago,” Edward Razek, who has been selecting models for Victoria’s Secret for a decade, told Forbes. The company gave Kroes a contract this year.
Victoria’s Secret made millionaires of two newcomers: Miranda Kerr and Selita Ebanks, ranked at Nos. 10 and 12, respectively.

The striking combination of her androgynous look, peroxide blonde crop, punk attitude and quirky technicoloured dress sense has quickly earned her trendsetter status.
Deyn – who is tipped to earn up to ?10 million ($26.8 million) this year – knocked reigning queen Moss, 34, off the top spot of Tatler’s famous annual best-dressed list.
She was also named Model Of The Year at the British Fashion Awards last November, and has bagged lucrative contracts and campaigns with brands such as Reebok, Burberry, Hugo Boss and Giorgio Armani.
Since signing with a London modelling agency in 2005 and making her debut at New York’s Fashion Week in late 2006, Deyn has been in hot demand.

She has been featured on the covers of British, American and Italian Vogue, and the upcoming May issue of the uber-cool style bible i-D will have six different covers of Deyn by six different photographers.

True to her humble beginnings and down-to-earth roots, the former chip shop server from Lancashire – whose real name is Laura Hollins – has never let success go to her head.
The Daily Mail reported that since she relocated from London to New York’s East Village in mid-2006, Deyn has preferred local dive bars to the hip Beatrice Inn, rock shows to glamorous dinner parties, riding her old black bicycle to taking a cab, and vintage clothing store Trash And Vaudeville to Barneys Co-op.
She lives in a modest rented railroad apartment – like a train carriage – on the second storey of a walk-up.
It is reportedly so tiny, there isn’t even room for a sink in the bathroom.
Deyn told The Daily Mail: ‘People always say when they meet me, ‘I didn’t know you were common!’
In a New York Post interview, she also said: ‘It’s funny, because I always think, like – I pretend to be a model. I know that sounds really weird.’
Deyn agrees that she is ‘not as beautiful as the girls before’, but believes her idiosyncratic personality and unconventional style make her ’stand out’.
She also denied any similarity to hardcore party-girl predecessor Moss, saying: ‘I’m not like her at all. I’ll follow my own steps in both career and lifestyle on my own terms. I am not going to follow Kate in any way.’
However, she does have something in common with Moss, who’s now dating Jamie Hince, guitarist of indie rock duo The Kills.
Deyn’s boyfriend of four years is guitarist Josh Hubbard from English indie rock band The Paddingtons.
However, there aren’t many skeletons that the press has been able to unearth about Deyn, except that she indulges in heavy drinking sessions and late nights with celebrity chums such as singer Lily Allen, reality TV star Kelly Osbourne, actress Jaime Winstone and Moss’ rocker ex-boyfriend Pete Doherty.
But is she merely a flash-in-the-pan, flavour-of-the-month upstart who doesn’t deserve all the hype that has been lavished on her?
Or will she enjoy the kind of longevity associated with her popular British counterparts such as Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lily Cole and Erin O’Connor?
TOO EARLY TO TELL
Singapore Tatler managing director Gilbert Cheah said that it’s ‘too early to tell’ whether Deyn can attain a lasting impact.
He told The New Paper: ‘She’s got a very iconoclastic style, and what Tatler recognised is her great individuality without going overboard and looking like a mess.
‘And if you take away the punk hairstyle and funky clothing, she resembles Andie MacDowell, who’s a traditional beauty.
‘Agyness has a very symmetrical face and great skin. She is both interesting and beautiful.’
Mr Cheah added that her continued success in the industry depends on her ability to come across as ‘contemporary’.
He said: ‘There’s only so much you can do with this one same look. It’s recognisable, but also limiting. And then it becomes old quickly.
‘Agyness is making her mark in high fashion and she’s very editorial. That’s one niche she deserves to triumph in, and stylists and designers love her.
‘But whether she can go beyond that and appeal to the masses, where the big money is, remains to be seen.’
Ms Elisabeth Gwee, editor of Her World magazine, agreed.
She said: ‘I like her look – she’s pretty with an edge. But her look has to evolve in order for her to have staying power.’
