CFDA Fashion Awards: And the winner is…

Nicole Richie @ CFDAThose who wish to be surprised at tonight’s 2006 CFDA Fashion Awards should stop reading now. For others, here’s a look at who is expected: Karl Lagerfeld and Lindsay Lohan have been tapped to present the Accessory Designer of the Year award; Harry Connick Jr. will introduce the Menswear Designer of the Year award, while Jessica Lange will give the Eugenia Sheppard honors to Bruce Weber. Other celebrities expected to attend include Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, Chloë Sevigny, Terrence Howard, and the svelte-again Janet Jackson, who is expected to be the guest of Elle editor in chief Roberta Myers. The sold-out “Upstairs at the Library” portion of the event, meanwhile, is expected to attract a mix of fashion people, models, socialites and a celebrity or two, from Karolina Kurkova to Fabiola Beracasa, Zani Gugelmann and Rachel Bilson.

Ooops! Heather Mills’ hardcore pictures…

Paul & Heather | Bill Bernstein (AAM)Paul’s McCartney’s soon-to-be ex wife reportedly posed for hardcore pornographic pictures in Germany before she became a famous fashion model, according to a London newspaper.
The London Sun accompanies its story with some racy photographs and says that Heather Mills “was snapped in a string of lurid scenes for a hard-core German book” Die Freuden Der Liebe (The Joys Of Love) back in 1988.
The New York Daily News reports that one photo in the book shows Mills naked and slathered with baby oil as she performs a sex act on a male porn star, the Sun writes. In other photos, Mills appears in a pseudo bondage scene complete with whips, handcuffs and edible underwear.
The newspaper proclaimed that many of the images “are too explicit to print in a family newspaper,” but offered several shots of a bare chested Mills on its Web site.
McCartney, 63, and Mills, 38, announced last month that they were separating after four years of marriage.

Sylvie, first out of Canada’s Next Top Model

SylvieSylvie, a student from Edmonton, Alberta, became the first girl eliminated on the Premiere Episode of “Canada’s Next Top Model”, reducing the pool from ten girls to nine.
In the premiere episode, the girls arrive in Victoria, British Columbia and receive their first video mail from Host Tricia Helfer welcoming them all to the competition. They are then introduced to first guest judge, “America’s Next Top Model” Creative Director Jay Manuel. Jay’s first challenge for the girls is an au naturel photo shoot where they must remove all their makeup and pose for Jay’s Polaroid camera. Some make funny faces and others don’t know how to pose, Jay isn’t impressed. The girls must then assemble an outfit in five minutes and use a winding, uneven wooden deck as a European runway. All the girls have trouble with the challenge, but Jay deems Heather the best of the worst.
At their first full photo shoot, Jay meets the girls and introduces them to Photographer, Andrew MacNaughtan. The shoot’s theme is “Iconic Women of Rock”, where the girls get their first taste at professional modelling. Even though they all look fierce, Jay says Brandi is the most together “first timer” he’s ever seen. Tenika bares all backstage and wins no points with the rest of the girls….or with Tricia!
During the first elimination ceremony, the girls meet the judges: Stacey McKenzie, model and runway coach, Paul Venoit, celebrity hair and makeup stylist and Jeanne Beker, host of “FT-FashionTelevision.” Although Sylvie’s photo is brilliant, the judges are unhappy with her attitude and appearance at the judging. In the end, Sylvie is eliminated.
Coming up in Episode Two next Wednesday, the girls receive makeovers! And, let the catfights begin, as the girls gang up against “one of their own”, in an attempt to kick her out of the mansion … and the competition!
Canada’s Next Top Model will walk away with a $100,000 beauty contract from Procter & Gamble. The winner will receive a modeling contract with top agency, Sutherland Models and be featured in an editorial spread in Fashion Magazine.
Episode Two of “Canada’s Next Top Model” airs Wednesday, June 7th at 8:00pm (7:00pm CT) on Citytv.

Nipslip-scandal goes to Hollywood…

nipslip-alarm!Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar plans to make a movie on model Carol Gracias’ recent wardrobe malfunction at the Mumbai fashion week. Ask Carol about it and she is rather surprised. “Is it? This is news to me,” she says. “Well, the movie, I’m sure, will be bad and badly made,” she laughs.
Carol was suddenly in the limelight during the fashion week in Mumbai a few months ago, when her halter top slipped off on the ramp.
The manner in which she conducted herself, pulling back her top and completing her catwalk with poise, was much appreciated at the time.
But along with the appreciation, came the brickbats, where some politicians and activists accused the model of doing these things for publicity. “If I had done it for publicity, I would have been talking about it. I have never spoken on the issue and don’t want to.”
Does the ramp incident still haunt her? “I don’t want to think about that or say anything. What do I say? People ask me what I felt at that point. Why is everyone asking me this?
I felt exactly what any other woman would feel if she was in my place,” she says. A wardrobe malfunction, she says, is just like a shoe coming off or a guy’s button breaking. “Haven’t men broken their buttons a thousand times?”
Carol, who has been on the fashion scene for the past seven years says fashion has come a long way. “It’s serious business today. It’s no more viewed just as entertainment, but as trade that involves a huge number of buyers,” she insists.
What are her plans for the future? “I may be starting a business venture soon, even before I quit modelling,” she reveals.
