Brazilian fashion model dies of anorexia!!!
November 15th, 2006
Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston (also known as Carolina Reston), 21, died of anorexia nervosa, Brazilian media reported on Wednesday. Reston, 1.72 metres tall and weighting only 40 kilogrammes, was in hospital since October 25 due to a kidney malfunction. Her condition became more serious and deteriorated into a generalised infection that led to the young woman’s death on Tuesday.
Born to a middle-class family in Jundiai, in the state of Sao Paulo, Reston had worked for renowned modelling agencies such as Ford, Elite and L’Equipe, in countries like China, Turkey, Mexico and Japan. She has also done advertising-campaings for Armani and Versace.

this comes as a shock to me. my dad brought me in here to read an article on her because i suffer from bulimia going onto my 4th year. i always thought..”ehh ill stop before it gets so horrible death comes into play. ” because i thought that you had to be years and years into an eating disorder for death to occour. and this poor thing was only 21. and the pictures of her looking healthy were taken only about 3 or 4 years back. not to mention shes only 21..and im 17. so it just goes to show you that no matter what people may think..an eating disorder WILL kill you. weather it be 19 years down the road or tomorrow…it will happen and youll never see it comming. just like this beautiful girl. so start taking care of yourself now. which is what im going to try and accomplish…i just hope others out there suffering with this horrid disease do the same before its too late.

How terrible…I hope that this sends a message to the modeling industry and models. Please…we want fit models to model, NOT dead ones. It’s not only disturbing bud deadly…
9. dishington | November 17th, 2006 at 8:31 am
Tragic. A beautiful woman obsessed with how she is seen, instead of how she is. Reality seen through thr prism of another’s eyes. What is left of the self image of a woman perfect to the world and killing herself to meet the expectations of others. Rest in peace, Ana. Will your death change anything?
10. Mexican Lady | November 17th, 2006 at 9:35 am
The death of any person suffering this illness is a truly regrettable fact. The knowledge about the factors that contribute to develop this eating disorder is still scarce, but there is evidence that it has to do with suffering that cannot be handled properly. Fashion industry should stop encouraging this behavior. Fortunately, Spain has started to do so; this example should be followed all over the world.

I just watched the documentary film “Thin” on HBO last night. It was about anorexics who are struggling in rehab. It is a disorder that few can fully understand. The pressure on a model to be thin is outrageous and I feel so bad for this poor girl who got wrapped up in a business and in a lifestyle that killed her. Of course there are healthy models and I think it is time for agencies, advertisers, fashion designers and all women to learn that a healthy weight is beautiful and strong. I hope her death will not be in vain. Her death should serve as a wake up call to the fashion industry.
12. Andy | November 17th, 2006 at 4:04 pm
Very shocking news. So beautiful and so young. Something needs to change soon in the fashion industry. it disturbs me when I think how little girls paging thru magazines look at these models and think to themselves that this is how she must look like, that this is what society requires of them to look like. another thing that I wish to point out is the fact that nobody is interested how the outfit these models wear look on them because they are sooooo thin that it can hardly look good. people want to see how these outfits look on normal sized persons. it’s almosta the same thing, looking at the outfit on a model or looking at it on a rack.
13. ziariz | November 17th, 2006 at 4:55 pm
Poor child, she is so gorgoeus and yet i see a scared child, looking for direction and a form of escape.
It is such a pity that the fashion industry promotes size 0, what the hell is a size 0?? i come from a western african country, starvation is something m,any people go through no because of fashion but because there is no money. About 60% of the population live on less than a dollar a day and this is considered “poverty”. Yet an industry promotes voluntary starvation to maintain a “look”. I am saddened by this and the way she had to die and there was no one to help her when she needed it most. So sad. May her soul rest in peace and to girlwasted@gmail.com, you are a very horrible person to be saying “serves her right”… it is horrible people like you that make poor souls believe that no one cares about them so they starve and kill themselves out of poor body images perpuated by the even more selfish “fashion media and companies”.
God help us all!!!

AS YOU CAN SEE…A YOUNG BEAUTIFUL GIRL JUST DIED BECAUSE OF THE DISEASE THAT MANY YOUNG GIRLS ARE GOING THRU RITE NOW. GOD MAKES YOU THE WAY YOU SHOULD BE AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE HAPPY TO BE ON THIS EARTH. IF YOUR HERE..YOUR MEANT TO BE HERE, NO MATTER YOUR SIZE, OR COLOR. THIS MAKES ME SAD…TO THINK THAT THERE IS SOMEONE JUST TWO DAYS AGO THAT THOUGHT THEY WERENT BEUTIFUL ENOUGH..I HOPE SHE KNOWS HOW GORGEOUS AND FORTUNATE SHE WAS TO BE ON THIS EARTH. AND I HOPE THAT NOW SHE KNOWS THAT EVERYONE IS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON.

So another death due to the eating disorder– tragic.
But let me ask you guys a question, why would you think this girl’s death will capture the world’s attention including the media? Fact is, it won’t. Sure she will be mourned, but life DOES go on.
Do you guys remember the death of the Gymnast? How about Karen Carpenter? What about Jennifer Hendricks? Wait, how about the one who just died a couple weeks ago and was found in her car- Amy? (this occurred in NM) While we’re at it, why don’t we add my good friend Colleen.
Do you know that there is a wall on somethingfishy’s site that basically has candles lit and over hundreds of death due to Anorexia (both subtypes), Bulimia (both subtypes) and Compulsive Overeating…whaaa? You don’t think that’s an eating disorder? Well, think twice because it is. OBESITY is an eating disorder, it just is at the opposite end of the pole.
Sure it’s sad this girl died, and many more that will. I guess I was just one of the lucky few that escaped the death’s door. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Anyone with common sense when reading the above paragraph will guess that I’m either 1. a professional who treats eating disorder, or care for them -or- 2. an eating disorder sufferer.
I’m #2.
I’ve suffered for over 12+ years and still am, however I’d like to point out that I am working on recovery. At this moment, my effort is to take care of my health. I suffer with a lot of health complications from the result of this so-called “eating disorder.”
I wish I could say that this death would make everyone stop and recover, but it won’t. Soon she’ll be forgotten or be used as an example in a new “Lifetime” movies. Who knows, but for those who she’s close to and worked with, along with fans surely will never forget her and her battles. I certainly hope that this can be an awakening call for some, and maybe perhaps those who are close can advocate for those who are currently suffering. Perhaps create a scholarship fund under her name that can pay for treatment of those who are less fortunate.
Believe me, Treatment is very costly! The average cost per day is around $1200 per day. And the average stay the eating disorder patient needs is close to a year, 6 months minimum…but a year would suffice. Trust me, 2 weeks or a month or 2 stay DOES NOT CURE NOR STOP the behaviors. IT ALSO ISN’T ENOUGH TIME FOR THE BODY TO BE COMPLETELY NOURISHED AGAIN.
Perhaps someone reading my comment can do something. A single person can make a significant impression AND make a difference if they chose to do so.
Anyhow, rest in peace Ana Carolina. (and many more who are on the “somethingfishy.org” website)

YOUNG BEAUTIFUL GIRL….THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MANY YEARS TO DIFFERENT WOMAN. ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE. EATING JUST APPLES OR TOMATOES WONT LEAD YOU TO ANYTHING THIS IS A GOOD EXAMP. I MEAN I MYSELF AT TIMES DONT WANT TO EAT, WHY BECAUSE I JUST LOOK AROUND ME AND EVERY MODEL I SEE IS SUPER SKINY I DONT SEE AN AVEARAGE SIZE LIKE A 6 AND THATS THE REASON WHY ANOREXIA HITS US.. WE NEED A CHANGE ASAP.
19. aram | November 20th, 2006 at 5:05 am
May Ana rest in peace and may her family find strength to cope with such a tragic loss. I’ve been modelling for 10yrs now, and thankfully have never had any type of eating disorders. I have , however, seen many girls struggle with eating disorders and hope that any person infected by this desease, learns from Ana’s tragedy, and seek help right away. May Ana rest in peace. Your were so beautiful and will always remain beatiful.
20. call | November 20th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
very sad. the scarey thing is not only dying from anorexia but she is not as thin as the other models you see elsewhere (magazines, television, advertisements, etc.). i don’t want to sound cold or anything but she looks “fat” compared to all the other models. scary to think my sisters and my niece are exposed to woman who are dying to look “perfect.” another scary fact is soemthing i heard or read somewhere, a young girl around the age of five asked her mother why her stomach was not flat like Ariel from the little mermaid. i guess it starts early.

I am 36 and one off the luky ones to live with this disease and yes it is a disease. At this time I still struggle with the mirror.Iprefer to look only from about my shoulders up.I am a size 8 now.Until 2 years ago I was a 2-4-6.My 14 year old daughter could wear most of my clotes. Some of them were too small for her.My son was fat and began to loose weight rapidily. It was a good thing I knew what to look for when his weight loss started because so many people who saw him attributed it to his growing taller.20 lbs. maybe is growth associated.80 is starving yourself. He was feeding his food to his dog(who became obese).I made an appointment with his doctor who showed him how to eat but count what he ate and excercise instead of being a couch potato. He now weighs 182.
My daughter and her friends diet.I monitor her weight and eating habits.I have never forced my kids to eat because my mom forced me to eat.I beleive as does my shrink this is where I developed the eating disorder. When I was in school I lived off of salatine crackers, grapefruit juice and water.I lived with my sister for 2 yrs, she’s the one who discovered my eating problem.Yet now she too is painfully thin. Her son and husband remark on how fat she is if she puts on any weight. She’s a size 8 as well.Sometimes people who are supposed to love you do not know the damage they can do with a few jests as to how much you weigh.
My oldest sister is heavier that the us and she says she has a problem over eating. Is this thing genetic?Could it pass on to my children, grandchildren and etc….?
23. nico | December 3rd, 2006 at 12:36 am
I dont want to go into too much depth,
but word is that anorexia had nothing to do with this girls demise.
I’d met her several times
as she’d come to us for castings,
she was never skinny, in fact known as one of the more curvy girls.
she never ever looked anywhere NEAR 88 pounds,
closer to about 115 at her thinnest
which is heavy for NY runway.
(i do not make or agree with the rules, I only state them)
word on the street is
drugs.
thats all i will say.
24. Lucy | December 5th, 2006 at 2:18 pm
nico
You are in denial.
1. Curvy at 115 lbs.? Heavy for NY runway!
Did anyone comment to her on her weight? No wonder she was driven to her 88 lb. death! The “Fashion Industry”, I am sure thought she looked “beautiful” at 88 lbs. and told her to “keep up the good work”.
2. If there is any evidence of drugs in relation to her death, they would only point to drugs used to help in her attempt to loose even more weight.
3. If there is anyone reading this that is influential in medical care reform, please pay attention. I agree that there are many more deaths that we don’t hear about, and there are alarming increases in these numbers every year. Insurance companies do not cover eating disorders on an inpatient basis at this time. “It is too costly” states the insurance executive. Ask this young woman’s Mother if that is an acceptable response.
So nico, don’t use the rumor mill to feed your denial. You said yourself, (i do not make or agree with the rules, I only state them). Why are you spending your energy on something so negative as to perpetuate this myth of the healthy model?
That is all I will say. Put that word out on the street!
25. mees | December 8th, 2006 at 12:36 pm
no way she was beautifull, she was desperate for looking beautifull, health is first, you cannot be beautifful if you arenot healthy.
26. Justene | December 11th, 2006 at 1:18 am
its tragic that this has to happen before it gets proper attention
27. mj | December 11th, 2006 at 1:22 am
yea thats the problem, people in this industry feel as if they have to go along with the thin trend and fear speaking out. Just because you go along with the rules does not make you a better person because you didn’t make them- you are perpetuating the problem.
28. Andromeda Maria | December 11th, 2006 at 5:03 am
Bless Spain for trying to change this! Poor girl.
It’s a shame her death won’t change anything, and it’s a shame how the media fits into them
29. Evan | December 14th, 2006 at 12:05 am
I think one of the scariest parts of anorexia/bulimia is that not only can it kill you young, but if you are lucky enough to survive into your later years, you are almost guaranteed to develop SEVERE OSTEOPOROSIS.
Since you are not feeding the body the nutrients it desperately needs, it steals, or eats, the calcium out of your own bones, and steals protein from your muscles. Your body literally canibalizes itself.
Just talk to any older ballerina - if she can still walk or stand up without shattering her pelvis or leg bones under her own, tiny weight.

Something needs to be done..and now!ViVA ESPANA!yet thats only one country. The world is so much in greed for money that the people in the fashion industries(andlets not get started on the governments),are too self absorbed to notice what is actually happening in reality. They are too involved in thier own little make believe worlds revolving around money, and supposed “Beauty” for the catwalks..suicidal timebombs shimmying down the catwalk is more appropriate.Who do they think theyre kidding?!they give teenage girls like me(im 15),bad ideals about what is supposedly “beautiful”and the “desirable” body shape.MY BUM ITS BEAUTIFUL!Its bout time something needs to be done,i think a lot of people just dont want to see the nast side of the catwalk..they dont want to see reality.
It is sad that we lost a human being for no apparent reason other than she was overcome with pressure from herself and most probably those int he fashion world around her.But you know wats sadder?I doubt many big fashion people will care. They have so many other models to choose from so its like “meh…bring in another girl”.Its morally disturbing when this poor girls death wont change anything. If death cant change people outlook, then WHAT CAN?!the fashion society these days just seems too self absorbed to care.
31. BB | December 17th, 2006 at 10:34 am
Oh the poor girl. It tears me up inside when i hear about these girls, why do people have to DIE for this industry???? The fact is no one will pay attention! Society has been on a gradual decline and i dont see it getting better.
32. drbukkake | December 17th, 2006 at 8:06 pm

You, my friend drbukkake, are a freaking moron. Get your facts straight, and think before you post next time. Asshole. It’s very sad she died this young, there’s nothing good about it.
34. Erin | December 18th, 2006 at 5:06 am
its impossible to know what goes on inside someones head. Hopefully she is at peace now.
When being skinny is your career, what else was she suppose to think and do? So young with no direction,,,
35. Simplyfemale | December 22nd, 2006 at 9:25 pm
I heard your appeal for help, My Secret, posted Nov.18/06…
Contact me ….:)
Right on “Lucy” post dec. 5/06.
and Christina, I agree, it’s all about money, it’s what makes the world go round.
In this case, it’s also about child abuse , When you consider the age of these young women, who’s naive mothers entrusted them into the “care of” of agencies, managers, studios, photographers, ….
I think a movement is afoot, however, the Italian Fashion Chamber signed a code.. no more skinny girls.
Hopefully that gets their attention, and holds it.
If I were this girl’s mother, I would sue them all , they had a duty of care to protect her, being so young when she started.
I’d have a press conference. A big story in Vogue et al…
but alas, i’m not.

some of the comments left here are really disturbing.
like comment number 7……who do you think you are

are the ones that cause people to think so low of
themselves. a girl has died here because she was
very sick in her mind and she like so many deserve
compassion. i hope Carolina’s short life will open
the eyes of other sick young girls out there to get
the help they so desperately need.

this poor women has died, yet there are many more women that are just as thin as her on the covers of magazines and doing shoots, and they are all stick thin but claim to be healthy and even claim that they eat what ever they want!!!!
when will we all wake up to this and start admitting that all these models and celebs. are sick and need help and need to get off the covers of magazines and into a clinic.

Carolina was and allways will be remember as one of the most beautiful models in the world,is so very sad that she went from us so young.I blame in the part the industry she work in they put a lot of pressure on these girls to look like stick insects.I was a model for many years and my advised to all of those beautiful girls that want to become models is PLEASE THINK IT IS REALLY WORTH IT?.God bless you Carolina.
41. Charmed26 | January 4th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
The problem with the world today is that it is more focused on the physical and material aspects of people. In this model’s case, she is the victim of her own criticism and hatred. If she truly loved herself, she wouldn’t have suffered so much to a point that ended her life.
This is an awakening for everyone around the world that this deadly condition is proliferating because of the bad image that these models and other celebrities are flaunting on television, internet and magazines. We should open our eyes and keep a watchful eye to our teenage daughters who are patronizing these “sick women”. Italy and Spain has done someting about it, I guess we need more push on this issue in all parts of the globe in order to say that “we are really serious” about this stuff and it’s not just a “come and go” concern.

Good thing I woke up years ago and appreciated myself while eating healthy and being active…I feel sad for those that see themselves as fat when no one else does. The worse part is that not enough is done to have people appreciate themselves or show them images that reflect realism.

Yes, she was beautiful. But her beauty did not make it a greater loss. Many of you that posted above were inclined to note of her beauty and that it was a great loss. It appears this would also support the “be thin and beautiful at all cost” and many will remember you. It seems a little Hypocritical.
47. Island_girl | February 1st, 2007 at 7:54 pm
I ran into the site to read more about Ana. Indeed very sad that another, young woman has passed away of a terrible sickness. But we all have to understand and try to place our feet in their shoes. I was once anorexic. It’s a terrible thing to have gone thru. She knew she was beautiful and that she was getting all the attention she wanted by modeling. But was love there? Insecurity? when we all try to please others and want to be at least liked. When you want to look the best and have the perfect figure to please the world to be famous. With all, you forget about your health and start thinking what others really think. All the money and material is a temporary “love” but does not give you the fullfillment in your heart to be happy. You can die happy and loved but you can’t die with your house and cars. I just hope most models understand that. If it was a drug/alcohol issue.. doesnt matter now. Its too late.
We just have to respect that no one is perfect and WE all make mistakes, some that we cannot change time. We cannot change the industry, it’s what they want skiny/bony girls, the industry has to change the skiny/bony girls.
48. akewtipye | February 6th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
Yes she had a lovely face, but her body looks like something from a CONCENTRATION CAMP war picture. I am sure all have seen those pictures from history lessons. Did we think they were BEAUTIFUL?? or a victum of starvation and GROTESQUE? DUH?! Why should women think they need to look like a bag of bones held together by skin to look BEAUTIFUL… The Modeling industry is SICK …..
49. Christie | February 7th, 2007 at 2:15 am
She was a very pretty girl and it is horriable she died this way. But sometime people take comments to the heart and what if some one called her fat or chuncky? If someone said that to me I’d try to loose weight. Sure I wouldnt take it to that leval but sometimes people are just not satisfied. Its not always their fault. So the people that dont know about it should just keep their comments to them selves becuase what if when ever she looked into the mirror all she saw was someone obese. Those rude comments becoming true in her mind? Yea well I thikm it was horriable for her to be diganosed with anorexia but I think it was somthing she couldnt control, espically because she was looked at but millions of people.

things like this frustrate me because theres nothing we can do about it. i have 2 friends suffering from eating disorders and its so upsettin to watch them kill themselves. the more you try to talk to them the more they isolate themselves. its horrible. god rest her soul. she was a beautiful girl who is now a beautiful angel r.i.p.

Her sister is dead too now. Remember models: it’s better to die young and thin than to get old and fat! If you are young and thin, men will look at you and want to have sex with you. If you are old and fat men don’t want to look at you and then sex is something you read about on the internet….

Speak for yourself. I’m overweight and have much more sex than my skinny friends. Marry someone who thinks you’re hot–that’s the key. LOL
As for this girl, she looks curvy because she had naturally big legs. Because they were big, she felt justified in losing more weight. It’s not about one body part–it’s about the whole thing. If you are good-looking, stop there.
55. CyberBob09 | February 25th, 2007 at 6:01 am
drbukkake I thin you are a dispicable, nasty, sick person. How in the world can you say that!!!!! Probably with that mind of yours you are going to become and anorexic or bulimic, alcoholic, divorced piece of sh++. i am sorry but how can you say that?

57. Mariella | March 6th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
It’s so sad to even think about what she has gone through. I have been suffering from bulimia for the last 9 years and although I pass through really healthy fases, the psycological problems seem to be always there, underneath, just waiting for my weakest moment. I know that now, and as I see stories like this one, it makes me even more self-concious, this feeling that I really must take care of myself. It’s been over 6 months now, that I have been watching myself not to go back to my old habits, but I can’t lie that those thoughts cross my mind everyday, many times a day. I weight 50kg, which is ideal for my hight, but it doesn’t matter, I always feel I am overweight.
I feel in prison sometimes, in my own mind.

These girls are a good example of how all women should look like. I cant get an erection when a woman is fat. Remember girls, if your boyfriend cant get excited it’s your fault: you are too fat. Be thin and have a good sex life!
61. Marsha | April 15th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
I believe that the media is one of the main cases for anorexia in young girls today. Ana is one female who fell victim to the pressure to be a walking stick of bamboo. Every women is beautiful just the way God made them.
I think the fashion industry is doing the right thing by taking the first steps to ban extremely under weight models from the run way. Keep making progress and maybe, one day, people will not see the perfect size as a 00.
My heart breaks for Ana and all the other young women that have fought and lost the battle of anorexia.
I am still fighting my battle and one day, with God’s help, I will win it.

I know Drbukkake. He’s a skinny, ugly and very stupid little boy. He doesn’t really know what he writes because his brain is fucked up by reading “Cosmopolitan”. Unfortunately, he’s like many common and insipid guys, not very clever, always frustrated (I mean sexually speaking) and with no affective life at all.
Girls, don’t be silly, eat what you want, don’t try to be like these poor little girls without brain obsessed by how they look like. Be yourself, and others people will accept you and like the way you are.

being a former Anorexic who went through rehab, and completed it, it’s not JUST all about vanity. It’s pressure from just life - and feeling like you have no control over your own life, and what’s going on.
and when you have Anorexia, its easy for people to just TELL YOU TO EAT because they don’t understand that you can’t. People think that it’s something you do by choice - nobody becomes anorexic on purpose. It starts out as an inocent diet that you lose control over. But it’s NOT an easy disorder to get over - it was the hardest thing I EVER did - rehab. I’m not gonna lie - it’s aweful. and painful, and emotionally draining.
An anorexic doesn’t address the problem themselves, because they’re either in denial, or don’t even think they have a problem - it takes others who know and care about that person to come forward, and get them help.
that’s what somebody should’ve done for her.
and I think it’s great that Madrid is banning skinny models, inless of course that model is healthy, but just skinny.
Ana Carolina was a tragic loss, and hopefully eventually the public will be more aware that this is an EXTREMELY serious problem, more people will become educated about it, and it’s dangers, and someday, no one will ever go through it, and die from it, like so many do these days.

Why not just follow Walmart’s example of using cheap models and/or ordinary people as models ?
Seems to work !

Is there such a thing as lipo-injection (reverse of liposuction ) to cure them ?

Bless her soul and may she rest in peace.
If I could change something in this world it would be to start a revolution that is for humans that care about each other. Sounds very hippy I suppose but if that is what it will be labeled as then label it. We now live in a world where being Avant Garde, new, the next best thing, young, beautiful and modern is important. We look for it in products as well as people. Women are still be objectified in 2007 and I would like to think that will end very soon. I agree with Jess, that this is a disorder that is about feeling in control. Lest we forget, this disorder is also found in men. What are we coming to in this world that people are no longer important but to be stared at for their beauty until they waste away and then the next comes along?! It is almost as if the fashion industry were supporting a human assembly line.
Individuality, intelligence, beauty, charm, happiness and sharing life experiences with loved ones are just some things that having an eating disorder takes away. These obsessions with being thin must stop. Life is too precious.
This young woman along with many others that have died due to anorexia or bulimia should be examples of the way our society has become.
Maybe we are the obsessed ones. If not then we need to help change a corrupt system that is….one fashion industry at a time.
Maybe I am just a dreamer.
Peace.

This is really sad but this is an industry where you have to be a zero to be great. Thats the way it is and always will be. You dont have to be a zero to be a model you can be a plus size model and still be great and beautiful! But dont blame the industry it nobodys fault except your own. the industry will NEVER change. you have to change thats just the way it is and always will be.

Wow, when I first clicked on this link, I thought it was about Gisele. It’s a shame to see how far some of these girls will go to make sure that they stay in work. It’s nice to see determined people succeed, but they’re really just taking it too far. Thank God that the fashion industry is finally doing something to curb this problem.

These are horrible news and I am glad that countries like Spain go ahead and prohibit models like that to participate in fashion shows. I even like girls/women that have well formed body. There is no need for a woman to be that skinny. I think it might be the perversion of fashion designers to demand that thin models.

This is disturbing, particularly knowing that she was from my native Brazil. Anorexia is a terrible disease and it doesn’t strike only young girls. My father suffered from depression and died of anorexia at age 63.
Appearance is something very glorified in Brazil, particularly in Rio. I know this is terrible, but when I was younger, I remember that would not date a girl without checking her body on the beach first. If she didn’t have a perfect body, I would not date her. What an idiot I was! I am very happy that at some point in my life I grew up, changed my point of view and started searching for a woman and not for a Greek statue. Unfortunately, many men are immature and superficial and have girlfriends to show-off to their buddies.
Injecting fat will not help someone who is dying of malnutrition. They need minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbs, etc.
I doubt he death was related with drug abuse. As far as the news in Brazil said at the time, all she was eating was tomatoes and apples. Besides, the repercussion of her death was too big to hide any suspicions of drug abuse. It would be all over the newspapers.
As for the trolls, all I have to say is — Get a life!
My heart is with her family.

i think this is sad but can be avoided! if modeling agencies just didnt emmit models who are size 4-0 this would b better because people wouldnt think that it was ‘fashionable’ 2 be that thin!

Let me say this once and for all.
This illness/disease is not started from the fashion industry. It is a problem within the individual (self esteem, selfworth, etc…).
It is not related to the fashion industry UNLESS those with the illness attract that industry to them. My point is, it has to start within the individual first.
So many people think “oh, its because the model agencies like skinny girls…or they make the models lose weight…etc”. If that model isn’t already suffering with low self esteem and powerlessness issues before going in to that agency then they would never get steered towards further damage.
I’m not saying that its not hard to be affected by the fashion industry and the images and wanting to look like the models but just to give you another point of view. I am NATURALLY skinny and healthy and i wanted to gain weight to look like the models of the early 90’s (which to me was skinny with some curve).
So there are other issues out there that other girls are dealing with.
I wish all of them love. The bottom line with all of it (to me) is that we have lost how to value ourselves.

i think sometimes we forget how important life really is. Sometimes i can remember the people that were jumping off the trade center in new york knowing if they had another chance to live they would take it. I guess sometimes when you think you have it bad, you really don’t. We are made of different sizes, habits, culture and the list goes on. The only thing we can do is if you recognize a problem of any FASHION is to try to get someone to help with the situation.Sometimes a short problem does not require a long solution. No mission is hard to accomplish ask our troops. I pray for resolution to problems like these and others. God Bless and just THINK! God bless everyone who suffers from this.

I’ve photographed so many young ladies and it seems, the more beautiful they are, the more self-concious about their bodies. A sad reality in the world of thin models.
