Claudia Schiffer never thought she was beautiful

The German-born supermodel Claudia Schiffer admits she was terrified agency scouts had made a mistake when they approached her in a disco at the age of 17 because she didn’t think she was attractive enough to be a model.
She said: “I didn’t consider myself to be beautiful. I wasn’t one of the popular, pretty girls at school. After I was discovered and did the test shots, I was sure they would realise they had made a mistake and send me back.”
The blonde beauty was so lacking in confidence when she began modelling, she used to hope she would be overlooked during castings.
Speaking about her time living in Paris, she said: “I remember hoping that I wouldn’t get picked for jobs. I would be seated with other girls, praying they got booked.”
Claudia’s curvy look caused her problems when she accepted her first major catwalk job – a Chanel show in 1990 – because she was too voluptuous for the outfits.
She told Vogue magazine: “Catwalk models were traditionally very boyish. All I remember is the exasperated tailor who kept complaining, ‘I don’t know what to do with the bust. The corset doesn’t fit, nothing closes, we’ll have to open everything up.’ ”
