Elle: Models are people too

PASADENA, Calif. — Legendary supermodel Elle Macpherson has some pointed words for anyone who dismisses the fashion and modelling industries as frivolous.
“The modelling industry is a multi-billion-dollar business,” Macpherson said at the Television Critics Association tour.
“It is not a fly-by-night thing. We have television programs. We have whole TV stations that are devoted to the fashion industry.
“We create a lot of money for the U.S. economy, for the global economy, actually. So this perspective that the fashion industry is sort of frivolous or fly-by-night or tedious or momentary is actually really not fair.”
Macpherson has a role in the new series The Beautiful Life, which focuses on the modelling and fashion worlds. It will air on A and CW this fall.
