Tyra Banks speaks out about “weight loss and gain” in the fashion industry

The creator and host of American’s Top Model, Tyra Banks who is currently in Singapore to launch Asia’s Next Top Model spoke about the “weight fixation” in the fashion world.

She talked about how she fell victim to the same methods of weight loss in her heyday as a professional model. But in her case, she put on 30 pounds to prove a point. She said she and her crew were filming in Brazil when they realized that they were really unhealthy and not working out so they decided to see who can get the healthiest, the fastest. “I’m very competitive, so what did I do? I ate so much for about three weeks, so that I could gain 10 pounds so that when we all weighed in, I could weigh a lot more and then lose it fast. So I won. I lost a lot of weight but then I looked in the mirror and decided I’d lost too much. And so I’ve actually gained some back.”

Does this all make any sense folks? Well, in Tyra’s world it does. She is infamous for creating contests on her talk show that her fans follow and take part in religiously. “Who has the biggest forehead?” comes to mind. The supermodel who is an avid spokesperson for women in upping their body confidence had this to say, “The fashion industry has always been obsessed with thin…..I fight every single day to try to expand that and to try to show different types of beauty.”

A cause worth applauding folks even if at times she falls a little short by veering into worthless contests.
