Katie Holmes showcases her Holmes & Yang collection at Fashion Week
Dressed in a pair of fitted black pants, a white top and leather jacket, ex Mrs Tom Cruise looked very designer-like with the toned-down accessories and the crystal studded shoes. Tom was relegated to where he belonged, in her past as she spoke about her designs that she had spent a lot of time on and she had this to say, “This felt natural to us. We have taken a lot of time to get to know our customers.” And she added that their customers are “intelligent, strong women of all ages who appreciate clothes that are empowering, sexy and sensual.”
Coming back to the show, the clothes were wearable, stylish and well-constructed. Nothing scary here with the models showcasing the designs by sitting on or standing around crates. Some of the pieces that stood out was a green silk maxi skirt that had a thigh-high split paired with a black leather camisole, not your run-of-the-mill wear. Then there was a slouchy orange blazer which Katie says is one of her favourites for its versatility and can be teamed with just about anything. Katie has described her collection as basics that can be adapted to suit everyone from “rock stars to heads of state,” and so it was folks. Very down-to-earth pieces that could be mixed and matched to suit any occasion. The colours were muted with splashes of reds, blues and seafoam green.
How did she fare next to once best friend, Victoria Beckham who also showed at Fashion Week? Only time will tell. In the meantime, a great collection with no big surprises but one that deserves an applause nonetheless.
