Karl Lagerfeld speaks out again
Chanel’s creative director, man-on-the-move and one who is not afraid of speaking out over any topic, be it of interest or NOT, Mr Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t mince words when he’s got something to say.
Eccentric? Yes! One-of-a-kind? A definite YES! Someone who knows the ins and outs of fashion? Another definite YES! So we listen when this meister of his trade speaks out. This time around, he was speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme business presenter Lesley Curwen and Mr Lagerfeld reminded us that people lust over the most frivolous of things. This from a man who has made “frivolous” an art form. His exact words were: “You spend more for what you really want; some boring things you need: an ugly old car can wait, but if you have a new fashion item, it cannot wait. We live on this whole idea.” And he went on to add that luxury goods sales are thriving in Europe simply because, “we create a product nobody needs but people want.” A kernel of truth in his observations?
Well, in any case the man loves to share his idealogies with those who will listen and if we will or NOT, that is entirely up to us. And that folks, is the honest truth.
