Irina Shayk and Anne V channel legendary act

Kessler twins Alice and Allen Kessler were a class act in the Fifties and Sixties. The German-born twins took to the stage and performed their showgirl act causing a sensation not only at home in Germany but worldwide. Now, Vs. magazine has decided to pay them tribute through a stunning new photoshoot using supermodels Irina Shayk and Anne V of Victoria’s Secret fame and former girlfriend of Maroon 5 front man, Adam Levine.
Ellen von Unwerth shot the modern-day showgirls in their glittering ensembles which were specially designed by Sex And The City stylist, Patricia Fields. One shot shows an identical-looking pair of supermodels playfully kicking up their heels in Christian Louboutin heels and wearing vintage ostrich feathered capelets. Another shot shows them in their dressing room wearing Agent Provocateur lingerie which the original twins would have loved had it been in existence at the time.
The magazine went on to explain their decision for doing the double act. “With Russian supermodel duo Anne V and Irina Shayk dressed as swinging 60s showgirls, Ellen von Unwerth here gives an object lesson in the power of doubles inspired by the iconic Kessler twins.” What that means is that the “double act” is a powerful tool in the fashion industry currently and Marc Jacobs set the ball rolling when he sent his models down the catwalk in pairs to showcase his latest designs. Now, the rest of the fashion industry is sitting up and taking notice.
A new gimmick? Definitely. Does it work? Leave it to the designers to come up with new ways of capturing our imagination and judging from the photoshoot, it does have a certain “Je ne sais quoi” quality about it. Afterall, two IS better than one, as far as supermodels are concerned anyway.
