Liz Hurley and Lara Stone joined a host of other celebrities to show support for Sir Elton John’s, “Love Is In My Blood” campaign. Elton asked his celebrity friends to step in and join the crusade against AIDS and to help do away with what he calls an obstacle to fighting the disease. He calls it shame. The campaign was launched on Valentine’s Day and it has received overwhelming support. Sir Elton had this to say about the worthy cause. “The idea behind Love Is In My Blood was to remind the world that more than any disease, or prejudice it’s love that flows through our veins. And it’s that love which will ultimately defeat AIDS.”

Shakira, Ed Sheeran, Stephen Fry, George Takei, Adele, Emile Sande were a few of the celebrities who showed their support by posting pictures of themselves with a drop of blood on their finger and they inturn were joined by 76 million on Twitter and 26 million on Facebook. Who said that social media doesn’t work? In collaboration with the campaign, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei also featured a painting with drops of blood and two films with the blood theme were screened in New York, London and across Kiev.

David Furnish, Sir Elton’s better half and Foundation Chairman added, “Elton and I are incredibly grateful to all the kind, wonderful, creative people who supported Love Is In My Blood.”

Sir Elton once said, “I should be dead. Six feet under and in a wooden box. I should have contracted HIV in the 1980s and died in the 1990s, like Queen singer Freddie Mercury and actor Rock Hudson….Everyday I wonder, how did I survive? The full answer will never be known, but the message that saved my life – and could save millions of lives if put into practice – is that everyone deserves compassion, dignity and love.”

Love is a powerful weapon folks and it is a good thing.
