New York Fashion Week Trend: Jackets

PicMonkey Collage2 Designers at New York Fashion Week are predicting a frigid spring season in 2015. As of day three, at least fifteen designers have incorporated jackets or coats into their collections, including Marissa Webb, Coach, and Richard Chai (as seen above).

Marissa Webb’s latest collection married soft feminism with playful masculinity. Long, white, flowing t-shirt dresses were paired with blazers and deconstructed trench coats. Webb’s color palette could also be considered fairly dark for a spring/summer collection, including black, army green and greys.

The women of the 1970’s were no strangers to fur, and Coach’s collection is paying major tribute to that. Coach’s collection story seems to be that of a young woman hitchhiking in the desert with nothing but the coat on her back and the platforms on her feet. Extra-wide leg pants, metallic cross-body bags, and leopard print jackets rounded out the collection.

Richard Chai really took spring colors to heart when he designed his collection. His color choices ranged from yellow to emerald green to an electric royal blue. Models wore long trench coats off the shoulder to showcase the dresses underneath, as well as jackets in striped and solid patterns.

If we are to take these trends to heart, we should be keeping our coats and jackets out year-round.
