SCAD Honors Designer Azzedine Alaia with Exhibition in Paris
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Lacoste, Provence is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an exhibition that pays homage to the late Azzedine Alaia.
Titled ‘Azzedine Alaia: L’Art de la Mode’, the exhibition has been expertly co-curated by Olivier Saillard, director of Fondation Azzedine Alaia in Paris. The exhibition which is the second one from SCAD dedicated to Alaia, features 20 key gowns and suits from his archives and showcases his skill in accentuating the female form. It also features a film about the designer narrated by Naomi Campbell who lovingly refers to Alaia as ‘Papa’.
‘L’Art de la Mode celebrates the extraordinary genius of Azzedine Alaia, who was far ahead of his time and beloved by the world’s most fashionable women for his creations of flawless fit that boldly highlight the female form. Alaia’s mastery of design and dedication to his craft are exalted in this exhibition, which will inspire our students and visitors alike,’ stated co-curator Rafael Gomes, director of fashion exhibitions at the SCAD Fash museum.
‘Years ago, I was fortunate to spend a special day with Alaia in his Paris home – a day I will never forget. He was indisputably an original, known for his everlasting kindness and inventiveness. Alaia’s brilliance shines ever so brightly in L’Art de la Mode at SCAD FASH Lacoste this summer, replete with a carefully curated selection of masterworks from this genius creator’s personal archives. Summer in Provence just got a lot more dazzling,’ said Paula Wallace, SCAD President and Founder.
The Azzedine Alaia: L’Art de la Mode exhibition is free and open to the public through October 29, 2022 at the SCAD Museum in Lacoste in Provence.
