Karl Lagerfeld: “Cara is fashion’s Charlie Chaplin”

Whether it’s French luxury brand Chanel or Italian fashion house Fendi, for the past couple of seasons, British model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne has not failed to make runway appearances at the major fashion spectacles run by German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Not only that, she has opened, closed or done both during his brand’s ready-to-wear and haute couture catwalk presentations.

With that said, it’s more than clear that Delevingne has become Lagerfeld’s muse. “She’s a character. She’s the Charlie Chaplin of the fashion world,” said the iconic designer about the twenty-one year-old model. “She is kind of genius, like a character out of a silent movie. I would see her better in a silent movie than a talkie because she over-accents the movement. Girls admire her like they used to Kate Moss. They all want to be as free as her.”

Lagerfeld also praised other notable females in fashion, such as British supermodel Kate Moss (“She’s the free girl of our times. And she was not living on Vichy water all her life”); designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham (“She can look cold, but she is not, she’s cheerful”); his beloved pet feline Choupette Lagerfeld (“She has impeccable manners”); as well as Queen Elizabeth the Second of the United Kingdom, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

“Nobody does the job better than she does,” said the fashion designer of the soon-to-be eighty-eight year-old British monarch. “She is never ridiculous, She is flawless. For this job, in our day, she is perfect. She’s not supposed to be a fashion icon who is changing fashion. The Duchess of Cambridge can do that. Kate is chic in a classic way, but sometimes, with her Philip Treacy hats, Camilla is wilder. I know people who know her. Apparently, she’s full of wit and spirit.”
