Gigi Hadid recreates Anna Wintour’s first cover as Vogue frontwoman

Anna Wintour has held the position of editor-in-chief of the United States edition of Vogue for more than two decades, and with the relaunch of the magazine’s website, also unveiled were a series of photographs paying tribute to the frontwoman in charge’s first ever cover of the fashion bible.

American model-of-the-moment Gigi Hadid had the honor of replicating the November 1988 number’s cover shot which marked Wintour’s first publication behind Vogue US. The nineteen year-old beauty is captured by her countryman Sean Thomas to recreate the windswept dawn image originally shot by noted German fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh starring Israeli model Michaela Bercu.

From the contagious smile to the sandy blonde tresses, both mannequins bear striking similarities, but instead of the ten-thousand-dollar Christian Lacroix jacket donned by Bercu twenty-six years ago, the recreated images see Hadid wearing a sweater collaboration by former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists Dana Lorenz of Fenton/Fallon and Andrea Lieberman of A.L.C. with her acid wash blue jeans instead.
