Vogue Paris Celebrates 95 Years

Vogue Paris is celebrating its 95th anniversary. The magazine is marking the milestone with an October collectors’ issue, a book, plus a bash on Oct. 3 during Paris Fashion Week.

In comparison to the September issue which had 378 pages, it is a 472-page issue with four different flap covers: Kate Moss shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott; Gisele Bundchen lensed by Mario Testino; Kendall Jenner by David Sims, and Christy Turlington by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. All women have each made their mark on the industry in their own right and have been billed as ‘Supers’ according to editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt.

Other celebrities shot for the issue include Catherine Deneuve (the record holder for the number of Vogue Paris covers,) Jane Birkin and Johnny Hallyday, the latter photographed by Hedi Slimane. There is also Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’s 16-year-old daughter Lily-Rose Depp, and Gabriel Kane Day Lewis, son of Daniel Day-Lewis and Isabelle Adjani, respectively. They have been billed as “legends” by the magazine.

Inside the magazine there are Vogue Paris archival images including of Yves Saint Laurent, Sharon Tate, Mikhail Barysnhikov and Marisa Berenson and a feature where Italian photographer Franco Rubartelli, who produced fashion shoots in exotic places for the magazine in the Seventies, reflects on the Vogue years and his partnership with top model Veruschka.

In addition to all of the above, the magazine is also publishing a book, “Vogue Covers, 1920-2015, due out Sept 25. It compiles 140 covers of the magazine throughout its 95 years arranged by theme including “illustrations,” “the theater of fashion,” “supermodels” and “stars.” Priced at 39 euros the book will be sold in bookshops and on Vogue.fr.

And last but not least, the magazine will be holding a Paris party on Oct.3 at 51 Avenue d’Iena. It will be co-hosted by Alt and Xavier Romatet, chief executive officer of parent company Conde Nast France. Archival images chosen by Alt will be screened during the event.

The 95th anniversary issue of Vogue Paris hits newsstands on Tuesday 29 September and will be priced at 5.90 euros.
