Highlights From The 2015 Evening Standard Theatre Awards

The 61st Evening Standard Theatre Awards, which was held at at London’s Old Vic Theatre on Sunday, celebrated the best of British theatre over the last year.

Evening Standard editor, Sarah Sands, paid tribute to Paris in her address, while Christian Louboutin, gave a moving speech. The event had quite the celebrity line-up, from A-list actors to known names from the fashion industry such as Natalie Massenet, Burberry’s chief executive Christopher Bailey Anna Wintour and Vogue’s Alexandra Shulman.

Nicole Kidman and James McAvoy took home the top prizes with Kidman winning Best Actress for her part as Rosalind Franklin in Photograph 51 and McAvoy winning the Best Actor award for his role as the 14th Earl Of Gurney in The Ruling Class.

Milton Shulman Award for Best Director: Robert Icke, Oresteia, Almeida Theatre & Trafalgar Studios
Best Design: Anna Fleischle, Hangmen, Royal Court
Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright: Molly Davies, God Bless the Child, Royal Court Upstairs
Emerging Talent Award in Partnership with Burberry: David Moorst, Violence and Son, Royal Court Upstairs
Best Musical Performance: Imelda Staunton, Gypsy, Savoy Theatre
Newcomer in a Musical: Gemma Arterton, Made in Dagenham, Adelphi Theatre
Evening Standard Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical (voted for by the public): Kinky Boots, Adelphi Theatre
Beyond Theatre: Alexander McQueen – Savage Beauty
Editor’s Award: Vanessa Redgrave
Lebedev Award: Stephen Sondheim
