Our Newsmaker this week is British model Jourdan Dunn.

The 25 year old recently won the trophy for Model of the Year at The British Fashion Awards beating fellow nominees Georgia May Jagger & Malaika Firthtook.

Dunn is arguably the most popular British model today. Born in 1990 in Greenford, West London, where she grew up with her receptionist mother and her two younger brothers, Antoine and Kain. She was discovered while shopping in Primark, Hammersmith, in 2006, when she was just 15 years old.

She made her catwalk debut walking for Marc Jacobs at New York Fashion Week. Soon after, she walked for Ralph Lauren and fronted campaigns for Topshop and Oxfam. In 2011, she became the face of the spring/summer Burberry campaign.

One of her proudest moments was appearing at the London 2012 closing ceremony alongside Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Lily Cole. She moved to New York in 2013 with her five-year-old son Riley who suffers from sickle-cell anaemia. She supports the Sickle Cell Society through fundraising and charity events.

In January of this year, Dunn made fashion history when she became the first sole black woman to feature on a British ‘Vogue’ cover in 12 years.

Dunn also revealed plans to develop her own clothing line for children and young adults, while in August this year, she became the first black British model to enter the Forbes model rich list while earlier this year becoming the first solo black model to star on the cover of British Vogue in 12 years.
