Newsmaker of the Week: Imaan Hammam

Imaan Hammam 2

Our newsmaker this week is Imaan Hammam.

The 19 year old dutch beauty who is of Moroccan and Egyptian descent made headlines last week after posing for legendary photographer Mario Testino’s famous ‘Towel’ series.

Imaan (pronounced Ee-men) was raised in Amsterdam, speaks three languages and maintains a strong sense of identity. She first stepped onto the scene in Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall ’13 Couture Show and further became a breakout star after landing a career-defining Givenchy campaign (opening Givenchy’s Spring ’14 Show During Paris Fashion Week) and her first Vogue cover. ‘I’m happy that everything is going well for me, but I will always remember the other stuff that goes on in the world,’ she said in an interview with Teen Vogue in 2015. The issue notably made history for being the first time that three black models appeared on the cover.

Imaan has been a regular within the pages of Vogue. In April of this year, Hammam won Couturesque Magazine’s Model of the Year competition, beating Lucky Blue Smith and Bella Hadid. She was captured by Daniel Jackson for WSJ Magazine’s April 2016 issue and also posed topless for the May issue of the French version of Vogue. Earlier last month Imaan hit the red carpet of her very first Met Ball.

With an impressive resume of major runway shows, fashion campaigns, and magazine spreads, there’s no doubt she’ll soon be an icon.
