Chanel to open site dedicated to its Metiers d’Art in Paris

Chanel Metiers d'Art

Chanel has decided to dedicate a space to the speciality Ateliers that are showcased every year in its Metiers d’Art show.

The building will consist of five levels featuring design and production ateliers as well as vast gardens. From plumassiers to jewellers, embroiderers, couturiers, shoemakers and gold and silversmiths, it will house the creations that are today scattered between Pantin, Aubervilliers and Paris.

The French Fashion house has called upon Rudy Ricciotti, winner of the 2006 Grand Prix d’architecture and lover of concrete, to design the space. Set to open in 2020, the new site will be spread over more than 25,000 square meters in the North of Parison the outskirts of the 19th arrondissement, Porte d’Aubervilliers.

‘This remarkable and ambitious project will be a place to serve both creation and innovation between the Metiers d’art and the House of CHANEL, as well as the Metiers d’art and their other clients, and will be a creative space open to the exterior. This new Parisian real estate development will be unique as much by its urban and architectural qualities as by its functionality and its objectives in terms of innovation and sustainable development,’ said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion at Chanel in a press release.

‘The philosophy behind this project destined for the Chanel Metiers d’art is founded on a narrative, that of the relationship between the technical and scholarly complexity of fashion’s craftsmen, their remarkable virtuosity in the service of creation and beauty, and the extreme technological nature of my constructions. It is a mutual eulogy to complexity – that of a building set to achieve an unparalleled level – and of the relationship to knowledge,’ added Rudy Ricciotti.

For the past 16 years, Chanel has been celebrating the savoir-faire of its ateliers every season with its Metiers d’Art show, which this year took place in Hamburg, Karl Lagerfeld’s hometown.
