Marchesa could make return at Emmys

After months of being out of the limelight, fashion house Marchesa could make a comeback during the annual Emmy Awards that will be presented next month.

Following accusations of sexual abuse by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, (the ex-husband of founder and creative director of Marchesa, Georgina Chapman) the label was banned from all major award shows. Further, it was discovered that there had been financial ties between Weinstein and his ex-wife’s company. However, with the passing of time, things may change for Chapman and Keren Craig.

According to WWD, several well-known names within the film and fashion world think of the events around Marchesa as past tense. ‘I think it’s about what’s happening now. What happened before is irrelevant. If Georgina can start fresh, wipe the slate clean, I think she has a huge chance because who wouldn’t want to support her? People liked Georgina and Keren. That goes a long way. And they were pretty dresses,’ George Kotsiopoulos who dressed celebrities like Kerry Washington in Marchesa told WWD.

Kotsiopoulos is not the only one who thinks so. Micah Schifman, the stylist of actress Sarah Silverman and stylist Jessica Paster think the support for Marchesa is greater than the aversion to Weinstein. ‘I think people have turned the corner. I think the support for [Georgina] is so much greater than the ill will for him. Talking to other stylists at dinner, they are really rooting for the brand and Georgina right now and I would not be surprised to see one, maybe two, big girls wearing it at the Emmys,’ Schifman told WWD.

‘Whatever people do in their personal life, what does it have to do with fashion? Georgina wasn’t the one hurting women. I love Marchesa and I think the girls are awesome. I’ll be dressing Amanda Crew and Ellie Kemper for the Emmys and of course I will be pulling it,’ Paster added.

The Emmys will take place on Monday 17 September and it will be interesting to see how many actresses support Chapman and Craig by appearing in Marchesa’s creations.
