Roberta Cardenio

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Last week, we profiled Giselle Norman and this week we’re turning our attention to Italian top model Roberta Cardenio. We caught up with her to talk about her career so far, her passion for modeling and her plans for the future.

Have you always wanted to be a model? If not, what did you want to be growing up?
I never imagined being a model, I wanted to be an architect.

How were you scouted?
A photographer introduced me to Why Not and they signed me immediately!

How would you describe yourself as a model in three words?
Professional, Friendly and Adaptable

Your first modeling job?
It was a small fashion show in my hometown.

What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model?
I love that it gives me the possibility to travel and discover new places and people.

Is there anyone that you admire as a role model and why?
Gisel Bundchen. I really admire all the work she has done and continues to do to protect the environment.

What’s been your biggest OMG moment to date?
Definitely had to be when I walked exclusively for the YSL show in 2012 with Stefano Pilati.

What is your dream shoot/campaign?
That’s easy! Dolce & Gabbana campaign with Sophia Loren in Capri.

Biggest lesson that modelling has taught you?
Believe in yourself don’t let what other peoples’ opinions bother you.

What’s the best life advice you’ve ever received?
Be yourself and respect your coworkers if you in return want to be respected.

How do you stay in shape?
Luckily I don’t have to do much, thanks to good metabolism! But running helps too!

What do you think about fashion? What does it mean to you?
I see art and fashion in the same way. The clothes become a painting in their own way and the models are like sculptures through the hands of the stylist.

If you had to be head to tow in one designer brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Hands down, Dolce & Gabbana!

How would you describe your style?
Modern with a classic touch.

Denim or leather?
Denim

Heels or flats?
Heels

Vintage or contemporary fashion?
Both actually.

What is your guilty pleasure?
I love cooking and eating.

What’s been your most indulgent purchase since you became a model?
Buying Prada handbags!

If you were an emoji, which would you be and why?
A smiley face because I’m always cheerful.

When you’re not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?
I love taking long walks and going to art exhibitions.

What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?
I model full time but soon, I hope to use my university degree in art in the field of fashion in a new creative way for the industry.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
As a businesswoman, traveling every week to somewhere new!

Thank you, Roberta, for this amazing interview!
