Model of the Week: Fien Kloos

Fien Kloos

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Previously, we profiled German beauty Anastasia Jovanovich and this week we’re turning our attention to Fien Kloos. We caught with the Gouda native to talk about her career so far, her passion for modeling and her plans for the future.

Nationality: Dutch
Instagram: Fienkloos

Have you always wanted to be a model? If not, what did you want to be growing up?
No, since I was a little kid, I have always had one focus; becoming a doctor. Instead of watching Disney movies, I watched operations. Instead of playing around with my sister, I practiced on her as my patient. And instead of going home after school, I went straight to the hospital to work as a nutrition assistant. So being a model never came up in my mind. Even though being a model now will not bring me to where I wanna be, I’m so glad that it crossed my path. This gives me chances and experiences that I never would want to miss!

How were you scouted?
I have been scouted several times at the age of 14/15/16. But as my mind was not into the fashion world I took it for granted. When I was 17 years old and walking on the streets of Utrecht with my friends, an agent of my mother agency now (VDM models) came to me. I thought that I should give it a chance. Never tried, never known and lucky I did.

How would you describe yourself as a model in three words?
Ambitious, easy-going, go-getter

Your first modeling job?
Benneton Campaign.

What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model?
The unpredictable part. You never know what the day is gonna bring you. Where you will be, what you will do and which people you will meet. Every time you take something new with you which broadened your mind and view on the world.

Is there anyone that you admire as a role model and why?
My grandmother. The way she speaks, moves and acts are what I look up to. She’s the kind of woman that every woman wants to be in my eyes.

What’s been your biggest OMG moment to date?
When I got the chance to work with Oliviero Toscani for the Benetton campaign in my first week of being a full-time model.

What is your dream shoot/campaign?
My dream is to work with Chanel one day.

Biggest lesson that modeling has taught you?
Being your own best friend. As a model, you are always traveling around and being in new places and situations. The only thing you always have with you is your own mind. Modeling teaches me to have the best relationship with myself.

What’s the best life advice you’ve ever received?
It’s all yours.

How do you stay in shape?
I don’t believe in all the diets and superfoods. I think if you just try to follow what our ‘Mother Nature’ gave us back in the days, you get the most healthy nutrition. Besides that, I’m an active person that can’t sit still. I need movements, to get my energy out.

What do you think about fashion? What does it mean to you?
Fashion is a type of art, it’s a way to express something. The way I dress in the morning shows how I feel that day or where I’m up to.

If you had to be head to toe in one designer brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Ralph Lauren

How would you describe your style?
Classic, minimalistic, elegant

Denim or leather?
Denim

Heels or flats?
Heels

Vintage or contemporary fashion?
Contemporary fashion

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Fresh warm bread out of the oven with a layer of butter and ‘hagelslag’ (dutch chocolat chips)

What’s been your most indulgent purchase since you became a model?
All the things where I spent my money on taking the best moments.

If you were an emoji, which would you be and why?
Smiling Face with Halo. Because of feeling blessed with everything I have around me.

When you’re not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?
Getting back all the time that I missed to spend with my family. The best with all of them together; cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles. Even after being for a while in the city, I like to go to a peaceful and quiet place. My favorite place to be is in the mountains. It’s just you and nature there. Spending my time there with friends or family is my number one quality time.

What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?
Because I just started as a model and just did my first season there are a lot of things I still have in front of me. All I hope is that I can show all of what I have inside me. Where that will bring me at the end doesn’t matter.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
That’s what the future will tell me. But one thing for sure: happy.
