Nensi Dojaka wins 2021 LVMH Prize
Albanian womenswear designer Nensi Dojaka has won the prestigious 2021 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers 2021.
The 28-year-old Londoner beat nearly 2,000 candidates hailing from over one-hundred countries to win a 300,000-euro endowment plus a year of mentorship by a team of LVMH experts. The award will allow her to develop her collections and her label internationally.
A Graduate of Central Saint Martins, Dojaka launched her label in 2017 while completing her Bachelor of Arts at the London College of Fashion. Her modern yet timeless monochromatic pieces that blend clothing and lingerie have a cult following and are worn by the likes of Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Kaia Gerber.
‘I am very happy that the 2021 LVMH Prize has been awarded to Nensi Dojaka. Her sensual and tailored fashion breaks with the conventions of womenswear, combining confidence and style,’ Delphine Arnault, executive vice president of Louis Vuitton said in a press release.
This year, the Karl Lagerfeld Prize was awarded to three talents: Colm Dillane founder of the Brooklyn based KidSuper label, Shanghai-based Chinese designer Rui Zhou behind the genderless brand Rui and South African designer based in Cape Town Lukhanyo Mdingi. They each received 150,000 euros as well as one-year year of mentoring from a dedicated LVMH team.
‘Given the incredible talent of the finalists, the Jury decided to award the Karl Lagerfeld Prize to Dillane, Rui and Mdingi. All three have sharp and unique visions of today’s fashion,’ Ms. Arnault added.
The awards were presented by the French actress Isabelle Huppert at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, on 7th September in the presence of six artistic directors from the LVMH Group, Virgil Abloh, Jonathan Anderson, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Marc Jacobs, Kim Jones and Stella McCartney, alongside Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie and Sidney Toledano.
Dojaka will present her fourth runway collection at London Fashion Week later this month. The 9th edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers will take place in 2022.
