Zara releases exclusive Summer capsule in Collaboration with Fanglu Lin
Spanish Fashion retailer Zara has unveiled an exclusive capsule collection in collaboration with acclaimed textile artist Fanglu Lin.
Spanning womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and homeware, it marks her first-ever venture into wearable design and opens her work to an entirely new audience. Deeply rooted in the textile traditions of the Bai ethnic minority from China’s Yunnan province, Lin’s work fuses ancestral artistry with contemporary sensibility, transforming the language of textile art into a new form of expression.
To bring her visionary artistry into the realm of fashion, Lin worked closely with Zara’s design team and recontextualized details from her artworks to translate them into clothing. The resulting collection has a philosophy of softness that blurs the lines between structure and flow. It is rich with embroidery, knotting, ruching, shirring, and dyeing techniques which Lin learnt at the Zhou Cheng village, Dali. The textiles are textured, layered, and full of movement and grace using her signature techniques while the color palette of natural, black, and indigo and delicately hued prints are taken from her own watercolor paintings.
‘In the realm of traditional craft, time is not told it is held, in each stitch and knot, quietly accumulating. I have long sought a way to carry this meditative sense of time into the rhythms of contemporary life. To me, textiles are never merely material or technique; they are embodied memories of culture, a whispered inheritance passed from woman to woman. What we sew is not only cloth, but the forgotten seams of history and emotion. The frayed edges, the fingerprints of the hands remind me that the role of art is not to veil reality, but to brush against it. This collaboration with Zara is the first time my work has found a body to inhabit. These pieces no longer rest in stillness; they move, breathe, and unfold with the wearer. They become a language of fiber spoken in motion. I hope that in the quiet folds of daily life, people might feel the warmth of craft not in grand gestures, but in the smallest of details: a gathered thread, a wrinkle of fabric that calls you to pause, to touch something soft that has traveled a long way to reach you,’ Lin explained in a press release.
