Cara Delevingne Covers WSJ, Talks Career Transition To Acting

Model and actress Cara Delevingne graces the June issue of Wall Street Journal in a stunning black and white photoshoot photographed by Daniel Jackson and styled by Alastair McKimm. The 22 year old multi-hyphenate also gave an in-depth interview in which she discusses her background, her success in modeling and her acting ambitions.

Speaking on the subject of her modeling career, Cara told WSJ that while she has been successful in the fashion industry by gracing countless editorials, campaigns and runways it didn’t seem to have fulfilled her dreams. “I ended up feeling a bit empty. Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it.There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things.” However, she attributes her success to social media. “I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all. In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.” she says.

In a bold move the model also revealed the downsides of the modeling industry saying she despises the pressures put on girls to stay thin; “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, ‘So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight.’ It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

While she is still the face of campaigns and graces some of the major runways, Cara is in the middle of rebranding herself as she makes the transition from Modeling to Acting. The change from modeling to film is a big one for her and she says its something she had even before pursuing a modeling career. “I basically gave up on acting because trying to get an agent was impossible. Everyone said, ‘You’re just a model’. Once I had my mindset that I was going to do this modelling thing, I really wanted to beat it, if that makes sense? Win it.”

It would be safe to say that Cara is taking steps away from full-time modeling (without being a cliche) and as found her inner peace in pursuing an acting career. Having appeared in Anna Karenina and The Face of an Angel, Delevingne has a long list of movies coming out in this year and next. From Suicide Squad, Peter Pan remake and Luc Besson’s newly announced Valerian, to Paper Towns the latest film based on a book by John Green releasing in July. But her mission is far from over as she’s set her sights on other stars. “I want to prove that you can be anything you want to be. I love working, and I love what I do. If I f– it up now, it’s all my fault.” she concludes.
