Is Cara Delevingne Leaving Fashion Behind ?

Cara Delevingne‘s efforts of walking away from full-time modelling seem to have taken flight. The 22-year-old is now represented by an acting agent and is no longer listed on the website for Storm Model Management, who she was with since the start of her career.

The news isn’t much of a surprise for her fans given that Delevingne made no secret of the fact that she always wanted to pursue an acting career as opposed to modelling. ‘The thrill of acting is making a character real. Modeling is the opposite of real,’ she said in her July cover interview with American Vogue. ‘It’s being fake in front of the camera.’ She also told Vogue that she no longer ‘understands’ fashion, admitting that it was a hard industry to walk away from. ‘I’m not sure I understand what fashion is anymore, I admit I was terrified to leave. I mean, the bubble gives you a kind of dysfunctional family. When you’re in it, you get it. And the second you’re out of it, you’re like, What the hell just happened?’.

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Delevingne revealed that modelling left her feeling ‘a bit empty’. ‘Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it. There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things. It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, so-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.’

Delevingne who is now represented by top American acting agency, William Morris was scouted while she was still at school by Storm Models executive Sarah Doukas (who was also responsible for discovering Kate Moss). She quickly became a sensation after getting her break with Burberry when Christopher Bailey cast her in Burberry’s spring 2011 campaign. Since then she’s modeled for the likes of Chanel, Burberry, Fendi, Pepe Jeans, La Perla, Balmain, Topshop and has also collaborated on collections for DKNY and Mulberry.

Looking back now, Cara seems to have found her inner peace in pursuing an acting career. With a long list of movies coming out in this year and next,(Kids in Love, London Fields, Tulip Fever, Peter Pan and Luc Besson’s newly announced Valerian). While Paper Towns the latest film based on a book by John Green releases this month. However with contracts with YSL, Burberry and Mango currently in place its safe to say that Cara wont be bidding farewell to the fashion industry for good.
