Fashion house Dior has relaunched the iconic Saddle Bag for its Autumn / Winter 2018/19 Collection.

The bag was first introduced in 1999 by John Galliano, then artistic director of Dior, for the Spring / Summer 2000 collection. Once a favorite among celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City, Beyonce, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, the cult bag disappeared after Galliano’s departure.

Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior proclaimed July 19, 2018 the “Day of the Saddle Bag”. The new interpretations of the “Saddle Bag” comes in two versions: monochrome leather with colorful 70ies patchwork with inscriptions ‘Peace and Love Dior’ and oblique canvas embellished with nine pieces of finely-beaded embroidery. Altogether, the colors match the theme of the ready-to-wear collection. The bag has a gold-plated Dior logo and can be worn crossbody

‘I consider this icon of the house’s recent history the perfect accessory to deal with this battle that is daily life. Indeed, the saddle bag is a bag that is worn in exactly the same way as a shirt or jacket, and it’s so comfortable to wear with its long strap that you almost forget it’s there,’ Chiuri said of her motivations behind the relaunch of the bag in a statement from the brand.

The Dior Saddle Bag is available in stores from today.
