Boucheron introduces High Jewelry Collection Impermanence

Kering owned French luxury jewelry and watch house Boucheron has introduced its latest High jewelry collection ‘Impermanence’.

Designed by Creative Director Claire Choisne, it is the latest in the maisons ‘Carte Blanche’ series with an aim to capture the very essence of nature. Inspired by the Japanese philosophies of wabi-sabi (finding beauty in imperfection) and ikebana (the art of flower arranging), it features six botanical compositions encompassing 28 pieces that transition in color from pure, bright light to complete darkness, symbolizing the full cycle of nature.

To achieve her vision, Choisne incorporated innovative and cutting edge materials alongside traditional diamonds and gold, such as:
Borosilicate glass (used to create delicate, transparent petals and stems). Anodized aluminum, Plant-based resin, Vantablack (one of the darkest materials in the world, to represent absolute darkness).

Each of the compositions come with instructions on how to wear each of the pieces that make them up. The pieces are designed to be transformable and wearable in various ways (e.g., as a brooch, headpiece, or bracelet), reflecting her focus on modern, individual luxury.

Highlights of Boucheron’s Impermanence High jewelry collection:

Composition No 1:
Poppy (which turns into a headband or brooch), sweet pea branches (that transform into different brooches) and a butterfly (that becomes a shoulder brooch), incorporating Vantablack to represent near-total darkness.

Composition No 2:
Magnolia with branches, flowers and buds (which transforms into a head jewel or a collar necklace). A stick insect (that detaches to form a brooch) crafted from white gold, its body and wings embellished with diamonds.

Composition No 3:
Iris with diamonds set into white gold pattern (detaches to form a shoulder brooch), wisteria of ceramic, titanium and aluminum (can be worn as a jewel in the hair or on clothing), and stag beetle sculpted in titanium with bands of white gold (that becomes a brooch).

Composition No 4:
cyclamens of white gold petals and 700 rose-cut diamonds (that transforms into a bracelet or brooch), caterpillar crafted in white gold set with diamonds and softly rounded black spinels (becomes a brooch) a black-coated titanium oat stalk and a butterfly with open wings of white gold, encrusted with diamonds (that both turn into a hair jewel)

Composition No 5:
thistles (small and large) with more than 800 diamonds housed in a vase (the large one can be worn as a brooch or crossbody jewel while the small one as a double-finger ring), rhinoceros beetle fashioned in white gold and set with diamonds (that becomes a brooch).

Composition No 6:
diamond-set eucalyptus (becomes a brooch or a piece of hair jewelry) and tulip (transforms into a brooch), dragonfly of white gold and diamonds (suspended from an ear) held in a borosilicate glass vase

With a total of over 18,000 hours of work, Boucheron’s Impermanence High jewelry collection celebrates the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time, inviting a deeper contemplation of our natural world.

Boucheron’s ‘Carte Blanche’ series is a distinct annual high jewelry collection with complete creative freedom for Choisne which officially began in 2020 with the ‘Contemplation’ collection inspired by the sky and natural phenomena, capturing the ephemeral beauty of air, clouds, and light.

Previous Carte Blanche collections include:
– Or Bleu (2024): an ode to the raw and powerful waters of Iceland
– More is More (2023): designed with a Pop Art aesthetic of bold colors and geometric shapes reminiscent of the 1980s
– Ailleurs (2022): a mental odyssey through five distinct natural environments (desert, rainforest, earth, ocean, volcano),
– Holographique (2021): capturing the interplay of light and color, exploring the optical effects of holography
– Inspired by the sky and natural phenomena, this collection aimed to capture the ephemeral beauty of air, clouds, and light.
