Cartier exhibition opens at Victoria and Albert Museum
French luxury-goods conglomerate Cartier is the subject of a major exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in South Kesington, London.
Designed by British architect and artist Asif Khan MBE and curated by Helen Molesworth and Rachel Garrahan, it marks the first major retrospective dedicated to Cartier in the UK in nearly 30 years.
The exhibition, charts the evolution of the Maison’s legacy of style, history, and craftsmanship, since the turn of the 20th century. Showcasing its integral role in the world of jewelry, watchmaking, and art history, it features over 350 remarkable pieces, including never-before-seen design sketches, precious jewels, historic gemstones, iconic watches and clocks, from the Cartier Collection, V&A’s holdings, the Royal Collection Trust, as well as private and major museum collections from around the world.
The second section of the exhibition highlights the Maison’s savoir-faire of how rare gemstones are transformed into remarkable creations, and explores the concept of time through Cartier’s timepieces – from mystery clocks to the extravagant watches.
Finally, visitors are invited to understand how Cartier has crafted its image and reputation over time, drawing an influential clientele, implementing a strategic vision for visibility and creativity, and responding to the evolving social changes of each era.
The Cartier exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum is open for visitors and will run till 16th November, 2025.
